MOVIE NEWS

THE JETSONS

'Warner Brothers' are moving ahead with their oft-mentioned big screen version of The Jetsons, bringing in Donald De Line to produce and Adam F. Goldberg to write a new screenplay, reports 'Variety'.

De Line will produce the live-action feature with Denise Di Novi, who has been developing the comedy project for well over a decade, working with a string of writers. The storyline will be based on the popular animated Hanna-Barbera TV show about a futuristic family similar to The Flintstones.

20,000 LEAGUES

'New Line Cinema' has bought Craig Titley's pitch for an updated version of Jule Verne's novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) and Josh Donen will make the movie through their 'Buckaroo' production company, says 'Variety', although it's not expected that Raimi will direct the movie himself.

The film will look into the background of Captain Nemo as well as that of his prisoners aboard the Nautilus.

I AM LEGEND

The movie has been stuck in development hell for years now, but things have finally taken a step forward. Will Smith, who has been linked to the movie before, has confirmed his involvement in the movie adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic story, previously filmed as The Omega Man.

TRAILERS

Casino Royale - Teaser 1 (click here for trailer)

Sounds fancy.
It's the first James Bond adventure with Daniel Craig in the lead.

Sounds familiar.
It was the first book written by Bond scribe Ian Fleming.

Back to basics, is it?
Yep! Perhaps prompted by the recent Batman rethink, the Bond producers are restarting the franchise with a story that effectively outlines how Bond became Bond, James Bond.

I see. So how does it look?
Very cool. It begins in classic black-and-white, evoking memories of old film noirs and 60's espionage thrillers, before slamming into the Bond theme in full colour. Lots of great-looking stunts and gorgeous women, all set to a conversation between Judi Dench's M and Craig's 007.

Hopefully this will get the Bond series back on-track after the increasingly convoluted and silly Brosnan era.
Yes, the producers are obviously paying attention to the success of Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer with the public, and this looks like a great mix of old and new that should please fans and bring those who left the franchise post-Goldeneye.

Pirates Of The Caribbean II - Dead Man's Chest - Trailer 2 (click here for trailer)

A-har, me hearties!
Ye-es, o-kay...

'Tis I, Cap'n Jack Sparrow!
Yes, Johnny Depp and company return for more sea-faring supernatural action. If you liked the first one, you'll go nuts for this.

Excellent! What's in the trailer?
Plenty of sword fights, cool ships, Cap'n Jack on fine form, a wonderful pirate crew that are half sea creatures, and an attack by a giant squid!

Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!
Shut up now.

Superman Returns - Trailer 1 (click here for trailer)

Finally!
Yes, the trailer has been a long time arriving, hasn't it!

Okay, we all know what this is. So spill it.
It looks fantastic - great visuals, a playful Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Kate Bosworth looks suitably do-able, Routh really impresses visually (I hope his acting is up to task, too), while everything else looks just fine. There are only some minor nit-picks -- the John Williams theme is thankfully used, but badly edited just when it's about to kick into top gear, and there isn't much emphasis on plot just yet. But, hey, this is still a wonderful glimpse!
