MOVIE NEWS

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN III

The second sequel to Pirates Of The Caribbean will be suffixed "World's End". The first sequel is already known to be called "Dead's Man's Chest" and will feature Davey Jones as the main villain (see right).

INVASION OF THE BODYSNATCHER

German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) will direct an Invasion Of The Body Snatchers remake for 'Warner Brothers', reports 'Production Weekly'.

Written by Dave Kajganich, the new version centres on a female protagonist who uncovers a conspiracy in a small town where the inhabitants' personalities seem to be changing.

In Don Siegel's original 1956 sci-fi horror film, hysteria spread through a small California town after townspeople appear to their relatives and friends as strangers while retaining their outward appearances.

The studio owns the remake rights to the film after making 1993's Body Snatchers, directed by Abel Ferrara. Production on the new version will start this October in Baltimore.

X-MEN 3

Ben Foster (Hostage) has signed on to star as new mutant Angel in X-Men 3. It was recently rumoured that actor Nick Stahl (Terminator 3) would land the part, but this has proven untrue.

OBITUARIES

James Doohan (1920-2005)

Actor James Doohan, who played the Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in Star Trek, has died at the age of 85. Doohan, whose role was immortalised in the line "Beam me up, Scotty", had been suffering from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, his agent said. His wife of 28 years, Wende, was by his side.

Doohan was a popular character actor when he auditioned for the Star Trel role that made him famous back in 1966. When the series ended in 1969, he found himself forever typecast as the irascible Scotsman.

U.S network 'NBC' cancelled Star Trek in 1969 because of weak ratings, but the cast was reassembled when the franchise hit the big screen in 1979 with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Doohan appeared in seven big screen adventures of Star Trek, continued to voice the franchise's video games into the late 1990s, and has a guest role in Star Trek The Next Generation.

Doohan became a father again at the age of 80, when his wife Wendy gave birth to daughter Sarah. His last public appearance was in October 2004 when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
