MOVIE NEWS

BATMAN BEGINS 2

Two more names to add to potential actors to play The Joker have surfaced, namely Hugh Jackman and Hugo Weaving (right).

CELL

Stephen King's latest novel, about a "pulse" transmitted to every mobile phone on the planet, turning every phone user into a rampaging zombie, is already set to be adapted into a movie. Director Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) is now attached, and will begin work after filming Hostel 2.

PAN

An intriguing update of the Peter Pan story is in production, entitled Pan. The movie will focus on a detective (Hook) and his attempts to capture a psychopathic villain with the supernatural abilities of Peter Pan. So far, the movie has only been sold as a pitch by Ben Magid, but the intriguing premise could quickly become reality...

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Yes, the Turtles may be back for another movie! The cult characters, that dominated the late-80's/early-90's with their cartoon series, toy figures and movie trilogy, will be back thanks to 'Warner Brothers' and 'Miaramax'. Unlike the 1990 movie, the new movie will be rendered with CGI and faithfully adapt the origin story of the pizza-guzzling quartet from the original Eastman and Laird comic-book...

SAW III

Plans are afoot for the third Saw movie, set for a release on 27 October 2006 for Halloween. The film will be directed again by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II), with the story by original scribes Leigh Whannell and James Wan.

Saw II achieved one of the best opening weekend hauls for a horror sequel, with $31.7 million in the States last Halloween. It eventually took $87 million in the US and more $148 million worldwide!

A spokesman confirmed Saw III, saying: "Yes, there will be more blood. Saw III will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of Saw II. The 'Twisted' team of Mark and Oren, along with Darren, James and Leigh, have all agreed to be prominently involved in Saw III. We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the Saw franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn."

"We have been discussing story lines that extend the Saw franchise to new limits and beyond with Lionsgate for the past several months. The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise's core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud."

SUPERMAN RETURNS

Kevin Spacey appeared on TV's Parkinson chat show recently confirmed to host Michael Parkinson that he'll appear in the sequel to Superman Returns, and possibly a third movie. He added that he spent six weeks filming the role and that he expects "the franchise to look after him."
