** MOVIE NEWS **

KING ARTHUR

'Sci-Fi Wire' spoke with producer Jerry Bruckheimer about King Arthur, the medieval epic currently filming. He confirmed that the film will be partly based on Sir Thomas Malory's 15th-century Le Morte d'Arthur, the original telling of the legend which formed the basis of the various incarnations afterwards, and will carry a "hard R rating" with the story concentrating a lot on the massive battles.

As for the Merlin connection: "There is [some magic], but it's going to be real. In other words, the Picts used to paint themselves from head to toe, either blue or green, to blend into the trees, just like the Special Forces. So you're going to look at the trees, and you're not going to see anything. And all of a sudden, these men are going to come out of the trees. So that's kind of Merlin's magic".

Actress Keira Knightley (Pirates Of The Caribbean) also talked about the movie, in which she stars as Guinevere: "I don't think it's going to be a family film. I think we're just going for reality. So don't think Camelot or Excalibur. Think kind of more Gladiator. So it's going to be fascinating."

AUSTIN POWERS 4

'The Boston Herald' has touted Demi Moore to star as the next Powers Girls in the expected fourth Austin Powers movie.

BLADE III

The third adventure for Wesley Snipes' vampire hunter begins production on 22 September 2003. 'Filmjerk' revealed that the plot "finds Blade joining forces with two vampire hunters - part of a group called the Nightstalkers -as they tackle the powerful and ruthless villain Danica Talos."

"After harvesting the superior blood of the ancestor of all modern vampires, Talos has resurrected the man now known as "Drake" (notice the modernization of the Dracula name) from a century-long sleep in the hopes of finally getting world control for all vampires."

"Blade, along with the band known as the Nightstalkers, must stop them from unleashing a virus that will kill all the vampires - but only are given one chance to make it work".

New characters include Whistler's athletic daughter Abigail, the comedic vampire hunter Hannibal King, and two humans who brand Blade as a sick individual who's a threat to society.

CONSTANTINE

'The Early Report' indicates that the Hellblazer comic-book adaptation, starring Keanu Reeves, will be released on 17 September 2004.

GARFIELD

'Variety' reports that Will & Grace star Debra Messing will voice the role of Arlene, Garfield's girlfriend, in the new live-action movie.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2

Will Smith recently spoke about his upcoming movie projects: "I'm working now in Vancouver on a film, called I, Robot - to be out next summer... big Fox [movie], you know, blockbuster robots fighting, blowing up."

"The translation we take it into 2035. So we take the technology, and it's pushed slightly ahead of the technology that Asimov had envisioned with his robots. And our story, I actually play a detective who is investigating a robot-on-human murder. I wasn't familiar with [the book] prior to the film."

I, Robot is directed by Alex Proyas, and also stars Bridget Moynahan.

So what about Independence Day 2? Smith: "I think that will never happen. But it's Hollywood, you never know. You never can say never. But I'm pretty doggone sure that will never happen."

INDIANA JONES 4

Executive producer Frank Marshall told 'Sci Fi Wire' that screenwriter Frank Darabont is still writing the screenplay for Indiana Jones 4.

Marshall: "It's basically the same kind of story that we had in the first three movies. It's up to us to maintain the integrity of the project. That's why it's taking a long time on the script. We want the story to be good enough."

Producer Kathleen Kennedy also said that she expects star Harrison Ford, director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas to defer their salaries in lieu of back-end deals to ensure a reasonable budget.

JURASSIC PARK 4

Sam Neill spoke to 'The Sunday Mail' about Jurassic Park 4, saying: "They have a story that defies 'sequelitus' by building on what's gone before, and not just repeating it. I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, but I think this will exceed expectations. I'm looking forward to it, actually."

And the plot of JP4 has finally been revealed. Don't read on if you hate spoilers:

"65 million years ago, a terrible disease plagued the Earth which brought about the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the early eighties, when InGen cloned the dinosaurs, they also brought this disease back with them and it has been present ever since before Jurassic Park (thus explaining the sick Triceratops and Brachiosaur).
Now this disease has become fully active in the dinosaurs and they're all getting very ill. When dinosaur carcasses start washing up on the shore of Costa Rica, a team (including Alan Grant) is called out to find out what's going on.

They head to the islands to study the dinosaurs and find out about the disease, known as DX. They also discover the disease is transferable to humans and could possibly bring on our own extinction".

Producer Kathleen Kennedy told 'Sci Fi Wire' that novelist William Monahan has completed a first draft of the script for the movie. Kennedy said that the third sequel will move off the islands seen in the first three films: "Let's just say it takes place someplace else. It will not be green. We will not go back to the jungle."

William Monahan makes his screenwriting debut on the upcoming Ridley Scott film Tripoli, which is what attracted Kennedy to the writer: "[Tripoli is a] very different genre than what we're talking about doing with Jurassic, which is why I'm excited about Jurassic, because I think he'll bring something to it that's going to make it feel fresh."

No director has been approached yet but the plan is to release the film for Summer 2005.

KILL BILL

Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill will be split into two films. The first part (tentatively titled Kill Bill Volume I) will be release on 1 October, with the second part to follow 2-6 months later.

ICE AGE 2

Actor Dennis Leary talked with 'Empire Online' and confirmed some rumours about Ice Age 2. The CGI sequel is definitely being made, with Leary saying: "Truth is, I said to these guys we should make the sequel at the same time we make the original. But studios hate to spend money until they have a guarantee in their hands. So now they'll have to pay twice as much to get it done and it'll take twice as much time. But in principle we've all agreed that if it worked we'd all go back in. I think there's a story - the people at Fox are working on one right now. I think they're talking about going back into the studios something around late Fall".

"It'll be the three of us without the baby, obviously! If [animated films] a hit they make tons of money! Future actors out there - take the back end on animated films! Guaranteed extra money."

PREDATOR 3

Speculation about a third Predator movie is raging again, with 'The Z Review' stating that a screenplay draft by Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn) is being mulled over. Rodriguez's plot apparently sets the action aboard a 17th-Century sailing ship.

Another rumoured script features Arnold Schwarzenneger and Danny Glover's characters, from the first two movies, being captured and taken to the Predator's homeworld.

STAR WARS EPISODE III

'TheForce.net' and 'LOK Magazine' spoke with actor Peter Mayhew about his reprising the role of Chewbacca.

Mayhew said: "I was told by George Lucas that I would be playing a large part in the story including the delivering of two twin babies and playing a role in a major battle scene that involves many war machines."

"Sadly, I have not read those sequences of the script yet. Lucas only gives us copies for that days shooting. But from what I've seen, it looks good. Of course, I really don't have any lines [he laughs]."

"Lucas has really changed his writing style from back when he wrote the original trilogy. He is much bolder and willing to push the envelope in both settings and dialogue. In fact, the opening action scene involving many Wookiees takes place on one of the many new planets seen in this movie."

SUPERMAN

Orlando Bloom (Pirates Of The Caribbean) is the latest name to be mentioned as a possible candidate for the role of Superman in the still-stalling project.
