MOVIE NEWS
9/11
Oliver Stone's (right) untitled film about the events of September 11 2001, will
focus on the last two people to be pulled from the rubble of the Twin
Towers. Stone's movie will be released on August 11 2006.
'Paramount' executive Wayne Lewellen has said of the release date: "First of
all, you wanted to be out before September 11th,. You really didn't want to
be on that date because you don't want it to appear that we were trying to
exploit it."
In related news, director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) is also
readying a 9/11 movie, entitled Flight 93 - about events on the hijacked
plane that crashed into a field. Interestingly, the movie will take place in
real time.
GONER
'Universal Pictures' has acquired Goner, a fantasy thriller spec script Joss
Whedon (Serenity) wrote and will direct, reports 'Variety'.
Whedon: "It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great
deal of horror and some heroics. It's certainly darker than Serenity, and
there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind
for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film."
GRINDHOUSE
Quentin Tarantino (right) has revealed some information on a possible upcoming
project with Robert Rodriguez entitled Grindhouse, where both directors will
take charge of various stories within the movie itself.
Tarantino: "His movie is called Planet Terror, and mine is called Death
Proof. Mine is sort of a slasher film, but instead of a knife, it's a car...
his, he's dealing with zombies and all that stuff. I think his might end up
being more violent, but I'm not finished with my [script] yet, so you never
know."
The writer-director elaborated that he's particularly excited about filming
the in-movie trailers for fake movies, saying: "That's one of the things
we're looking the most forward to, shooting the phoney trailers that will
play in between the movies. I'm working out my blaxploitation trailer, and
possibly a kung-fu trailer, a sexploitation trailer, a spaghetti-western
trailer. I just need to kind of work them out a little bit. I'm just getting
them down there, but I think for sure I'm going to do the sexploitation
trailer, which is called Cowgirls In Sweden."
HEADHUNTERS
Nicole Kidman has agreed to star in and produce a movie adaptation of Jules
Bass' comic novel Headhunters for 'Fox 2000' and 'Regency Enterprises',
reports 'Variety'.
Sibling screenwriters Jez and John Henry Butterworth have been brought on to
write the screenplay, focusing on four New Jersey women who jet to Monte
Carlo and pretend to be rich heiresses in hopes of landing wealthy husbands.
There, they are targeted by four down-on-their-luck gigolos trying to pass
as wealthy playboys.
Jez Butterworth previously wrote Birthday Girl, which also starred Kidman.
