MOVIE NEWS
OCEAN'S THIRTEEN
Movie legend Al Pacino (right) is set to join the cast of Ocean's Thirteen, playing
casino owner and hotelier Willie Banks. It is uncertain if Pacino will be
part of Danny Ocean's gang or the new movie's villain.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA
'Walden Media', the company behind The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The
Witch & The Wardrobe, have discussed their plans to bring the remaining C.S
Lewis books to the big screen. They told 'Entertainment Weekly' that a script for
Prince Caspian is being written, as it features the return of the Pevensie
children from the first movie. Producer Mark Johnson also admits that
adapting the book is proving difficult as it's substantially shorter than
The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. Prince Caspian is scheduled for a 14
December 2008 release now.
Prince Caspian will be followed by Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, in which
Edmund and Lucy help locate the seven banished Lords of Narnia. The
intention is for Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair will
interlock to create a trilogy.
Chronologically speaking, The Magician's Nephew is set before Wardrobe, with
The Horse & His Boy following, before the apocalyptic The Last Battle ends
the series. The magazine adds that the most likely of the three to be made first
is The Magicoan's Nephew, as it explains how the Professor came to own the
magical wardrobe.
ALIEN VS PREDATOR 2
A script review at 'Ain't It Cool News' for the Alien Vs Predator sequel has
caused massive online upset. Picking up immediately after the first film's
ending, the storyline for AVP2 finds the Alien/Predator hybrid creature (the
Predalien) causing the Predator spaceship to crashland outside a remote
town.
From that point it's a much more intimate affair between Predators, Aliens
and the Predalien, with a ragtag group of small town cliches stuck in the
middle of the action. But fans are quite rightly up in arms about the
mediocre plot, terrible characters, and the fact the sequel stamps all over
the original Alien and Predator mythologies.
And you thought the first AVP was bad, eh?
STAR TREK XI
'Paramount Pictures' is breathing new life into Star Trek. No, not with
another TV series, but with a return to the movie franchise. Writer-director
J.J Abrams will produce and direct the eleventh Trek feature film, aiming
for a 2008 release. 'Variety' reports that Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk,
Abrams' producing team from hit TV series Lost, also will produce the
yet-to-be-titled feature.
The project will be written by Abrams and his Mission: Impossible III
screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and will focus on the early
days of seminal Trek characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their
first meeting at Starfleet Academy and outer space mission.
