WWF: Backlash 2001
plays out the event from Chicago, Illinois on April 29th, 2001 over more than
three hours of fighting, grunting and general showing off.
The matches featured are :
- Three titles are on the line...: Stone Cold Steve Austin (champion) & Triple H (intercontinental champion)
vs. Undertaker and Kane (tag-team champions)
- Last Man Standing Match: Shane McMahon vs. Big Show
- 30-Minute Ultimate Submission Match: Most submissions in a half-hour
wins between Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle
- Duchess of Queensbury Rules Match: Commissioner William Regal vs.
Chris Jericho
- Triple-Threat European Championship Match: Matt Hardy (champion) vs.
Christian vs. Eddie Guerrero
- Hardcore Championship Match: Rhyno (champion) vs. Raven
- 6-Man Tag-Team Match: Dudley Boyz vs. X-Pac, Justin Credible & Albert
Presented in a 4:3 ratio and in NTSC as filmed, the print is free of artifacts but the picture
quality is variable depending on the technique used, examples including
when stop-motion and black-and-white techniques kick in.
You should know what to expect here though because these discs always tend to
look the same. As for the audio, it's in Dolby Surround, but only gets used
when people shout or the crowd roars.
The extras bring up more video footage starting with Interviews with
William Regal, the Dudley Boyz, Chris Benoit and Big Show; more Matches
showing Jerry Lynn vs. Crash, which was the Light Heavyweight Title Match,
plus Lita vs. Molly Holly; and also Match Histories from previous
violent and bloody meetings between the aforementioned names.
7 chapters split apart the main action.
Dialogue is in English only with no subtitles and most of the menus feature
animation in the form of clips from the matches, with cool screen-wipes.
WWF: Backlash 2001 was released on September 3rd, 2001, while I'm here
I'll summarise a few of the other recent WWF DVDs all of which provided a treat
for the fans when released four weeks previously, on August 6th :
WWF Survivor Series 2000 (£19.99): runs for just over three hours
(198 mins) and contains the Six-Person Intergender Tag Team Match, Survivor
Series Elimination Match, Chris Jericho vs. Kane, European Championship,
The Rock vs. Rikishi, the Women's and Men's Championship Matches, Stone Cold
Steve Austin and the Survivor Series Elimination Match. Extras include
feedback about some of the wrestlers, a look back at the Survivor Series Open
and interviews, some bravado and an extra match.
|
WWF Wrestlemania X-Seven (£24.99): saw nearly 70,000 fans pack
into the Houston Astrodome in Texas for over seven hours (430 mins) of fights
showing the WWF Championship Match, the Gimmick Battle Royal, TLC II Match,
Street Fight Match, Women's Championship Match, Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit,
European Championship Match, Triple-Threat Hardcore Championship Match, 6 Man
Tag-Team Match and the Intercontinental Championship Match. Stuff
the crowds didn't get to see: Interviews, Flashbacks to previous matches and
footage of the WWF Axxess in Houston.
|
WWF Best of Raw Vols. 1 & 2 (£24.99): Almost seven hours again
(412 mins) over two discs with a highlights package showing some of the best
"RAW IS WAR" moments from the late 90s. All the old favourites are back along
with footage of the 1998 Survivor Series Aftermath, the 1999 Royal Rumble
and Westlemania XV. Bonus material is included on both discs showing all manner
of wacky weirdness.
