Sex and Zen 2, states the billing, continues to reveal the bizarre and erotic secrets from the most notorious and forbidden book in Chinese literature - or is it just a load of pretentious twaddle?

The plot, such that it is, revolves around Simon Khan (Xu Jin Jiang), a sex-mad bloke who wants to bed the most number of women in the world (What? More than Julio Inglesias?), but also wants to protect his daughter Yau (Lee Loletta) from men like him when sending her out into the big wide world, disguises her like a man (badly) and slaps on a huge all-over chastity belt on her.

Problems are abound when her fellow student that she fancies is going after the Mirage Lady (Qi Shu), who kills her enemies by seducing them and making them come first. After he has an accident though, his John-Thomas is replaced with a mechanical penis (yes, that's what I said), in a bid to save the world from her.

However, in the end it's up to Yau to fuck the Mirage Lady senseless, since the enemy has functions to cater for both sexes.

Bathtime...

Non-anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1 is what we have, but it's not the best of prints and loses points for burning the subtitles into it so they can't be turned off and as they're stuck in the black bar at the bottom of the screen those of us with a widescreen TV can't zoom the picture in if we want to understand the dialogue. The average bitrate is 6Mb/s, often hovering around that level.

The sound is basic Dolby Surround (Dolby Digital 2.0) but is quite muffled and may as well by mono for all the difference it makes.

The Mirage Lady could give
more than anyone bargained for.

Extras :

Chapters :

17 chapters for the 83-minute film which is fine.

Languages & Subtitles :

Original Chinese dialogue, but with English subtitles burnt into the print.

And there's more... :

Not much though - a 2-minute Trailer and a Photo Gallery containing just a handle of photos, some of which are actually CENSORED! A small heart symbol is used to cover up nipples! Why?

Menu :

Static and silent - a montage of images from the film and displayed on the back cover.

The 'Pleasure-Pain' theory ?

Overall, this is a bobbins film with not much in the way of production values and is the middle part of a trilogy (see below), all of which is available on VHS, though just the latter two are out on DVD so far.

The BBFC have also seen fit to cut three seconds out of it.
