Dom Robinson reviewsResident Evil Code: Veronicafor
|
Resident Evil games are now getting as familiar as yesterday's boxer shorts and the plots as complex as the best choice of chat-up line down Canal Street, with a time machine required to deduce the continuity after game three came slap between the first two. Code: Veronica sees the return of Clare Redfield from the second game, where she searched for her brother Chris (another S.T.A.R.S. member) and here... she's doing the same, but at Umbrella's Euro HQ. |
For a Dreamcast exclusive, the real-time generated backgrounds impress over the Playstation's static camera angles which often made it hard to see where you were going, while the sound of scary monsters and super creeps shout from every speaker. You can't skip the go-thru-door FMV which is a pain, as is moving about: why not use the analogue controller for full 360-degree movement? A nice touch though is to use the VMU to display your current health status. |
In short, if you're screaming for more R.E. this one's for you, but it's long-since stopped sending a chill down my spine. |
