Subtitled, "Hall of Fame" , this Moody Blues Live
DVD is a greatest hits-style package played live and was recorded at the Royal
Albert Hall on May 1st, 2000.
Voted No.3 in Channel 4's Top 10 Progressive Rock bands, the tracks included
in this release are superb, my favourites including English Sunset,
Nights In White Satin, Question, I Know You're Out There Somewhere and
Your Wildest Dreams , the latter two being released in 1986 and getting
regular airplay, as I recall, on BBC2's No Limits but never making any
actual impact on the charts.
I have to ask though, why the lack of inclusion for their only No.1 hit,
Go Now and Justin Hayward's solo track from War of the Worlds ,
Forever Autumn . They may well have been performed on the night, but
rarely does a home release, on video or DVD, capture the entire concert.
Their singles chart history is as follows :
Dec 64 No. 1 Go Now
Mar 65 No.33 I Don't Want To Go On Without You
Jun 65 No.22 From the Bottom of My Heart
Nov 65 No.44 Everyday
Dec 67 No.19 Nights in White Satin
Aug 68 No.27 Voices in the Sky
Dec 68 No.42 Ride My See-Saw
May 70 No. 2 Question
May 72 No.13 Isn't Life Strange
Dec 72 No. 9 Nights in White Satin (re-entry)
Feb 73 No.36 I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock And Roll Band)
Nov 79 No.14 Nights in White Satin (2nd re-entry)
Aug 83 No.35 Blue World
Jun 86 No.52 I Know You're Out There Somewhere
The fullscreen picture looks a little blurred as if it's been shot on NTSC and transferred
to PAL without full attention being paid, but then why would a UK performance
not be recorded in PAL? I could be wrong, but it's still not as sharp as it
should be.
The average bitrate is a fairly-constant 8.89Mb/s.
The sound is perfect though, with instruments placed all around the soundstage,
even if the musicians are all at the front. Dolby Digital 5.0 and DTS 5.0
options are available, adding to the ethereal ambience created.
Sadly, there are no extras at all to be found and there are no lyrics
onscreen, but the menu is subtly animated and scored with the orchestral
overture.
There are 15 chapters. 14 for the music and one for the end credits.
The track listing is as follows :
1. Overture
2. Tuesday Afternoon
3. English Sunset
4. Words You Say
5. The Story in Your Eyes
6. I Know You're Out There Somewhere
7. Haunted
8. Your Wildest Dreams
9. Isn't Life Strange
10. I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock And Roll Band)
11. Nights In White Satin
12. Legend of a Mind
13. Question
14. Ride My See-Saw
