Get Mum really gushing with emotion with this excellent 40-tracker released for Mother’s Day - Sunday March 6th.
Most song titles will keep her happy, though some dubious choices crop up –
I'm Outta Love (Anastacia) - what’s that all about? You never fall out of love with Mum.
And then there’s Elaine Page & Barbara Dickson’s I Know Him So Well?
Anyway, there’s a pretty impressive roster of bona fide singer-songwriters
opening up with America’s equivalent of Elton John: Billy Joel’s sublime debut
UK hit, Just The Way You Are from 1978. Other greats predictably turn up:
probably the most profound song of the lot - Elvis Presley’s The Wonder Of
You.
The Corrs make the cut with the less effective original version of What Can
I Do which was remixed and peaked at 3 in 1998, effectively launching their
international career.
Other gems include the best north American singer after K.D.Lang – Christina
Aguilera’s stunning ballad Beautiful. Real oldies like Roy Orbison do
it in style - Pretty Woman,as does the ultimate and original version of
I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton, which makes Whitney Houston’s
cover sound embarrassing.
It’s not all soppy though as Barry White and the Communards will throw her in
a spin.
Inevitably the ‘pap stars’ pop up – Westlife, Will Young, Brian McFadden
and Gareth Gates et al, but as a ‘love album’ this should do the trick for
mums across the nation.
Go on what are you waiting for? Sunday will soon be here.
