Love Is All: Mixed Up
Distributed by
Parlophone
- Released: January 2008
- Rating: 6/10
Gothenburg new wave punk funksters get make-over. Not always a good idea.
Sandwiched between two remixes of Felt Tip (tracks 1 & 9), all manner of
musical buddies have chipped-in, to remix, or in this case, really mix things
up, with varying degrees of success.
There are some tracks that work wonderfully, and some which, seriously don’t.
One thing that doesn’t change is Josephine Olausson’s horrid yelps, so we’re
left to others to add their so called expertise in the tweeking chamber.
The goodies are Metronomy’s Human League-Bowie like slant on the funky Spinning And Scratching,
with the punchy and dance orientated Busy Doing Nothing by Uptime turning
out to be a real cracker. The Bees’ handling of Make Out, Fall Out, Make Up
is awesome, giving it a genuine James Brown '70s funky groove - Mark Ronson
would be proud of this one.
Not so goodies are Chicken Lips’ version which is lacking in all areas. Surprisingly,
knowing the quality of Maps, they do a sub-standard Euro dance version of Turn The Radio Off.
Tapedeck don’t do much better with their take of Busy Doing Nothing.
One more goodie to end, typically, rising stars Hot Chip add a touch of class
totally transforming their Felt Tip remix.
The full list of tracks included are :
1. Felt Tip (by Fryars)
2. Spinning And Scratching (by Metronomy)
