The 'Impossible Princess' seems to be going from strength to strength.

She will however, never reach the critical list for her art – or will she? Probably not. But she has left her stamp on the pop world – even if it’s at the hands of others. They are of course the songwriters. The rest she manages very well indeed – the writhing, wriggling and pouting are top-drawer and the gold hot pants for her comeback single Spinning Around were the crowning glory.

Most of what she does is dance pop, with a host of party anthems stacked up in 26 top 10 hits and 7 number ones all featured on this 33 track double-disc (that includes I Believe In You, released on Dec 6th). Some feat for an actress-cum-singer who in reality fails to impress at every level except, of course, the flaunting.

Her showing at the Prince’s Trust from Hyde Park some years ago was nothing short of embarrassing – not helped by a follow-on spot by the up and coming sensation Christina Aguilera, who blew her off the stage.

So what’s at the heart of her enduring popularity? Accessibility. Everybody knows the songs, whether they like them or not – key word is "memorable", even if it’s bubble gum in content. Pete Waterman got his hands on her from the start and they pumped out Stock Aitken & Waterman disco fodder like I Should Be So Lucky.

She had a major slump in the mid to late 90’s, (some saw it as her creative period e.g. the magnificent Where The Wild Roses Grow with Nick Cave), then bounced back in 2000 with hits Spinning Around, and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head from the number one album Fever. Now she’s riding the crest of a wave as her popularity hits an all time peak with sell-out shows next year.

Her singles have spent over 300 weeks on chart and albums over 270 weeks. Would I buy this? Too right I would, and so will millions of others because we all love Kylie.

Also, take a look at the review of the Ultimate Kylie DVD.
