With the imminent arrival of the 51st Grammy’s in LA’s Staple Center set for 8 February, all artists will be rushing out for new gear.

With several categories up for grabs, there’s a host of both UK and American talent vying to be top dog.

On the home front, Welsh songbird Duffy will be in line for Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, along with Adele, Katy Perry, Sara Bareilles, Leona Lewis and Pink. My money’s on Duffy which would do wonders in cracking the US. Leona might be the dark horse here with Bleeding Love. Katy Perry will be a serious contender too. With Slumdog doing well, M.I.A. might, just, get a gong, but no money on her.

Strong contenders are Plant and Krauss (Raising Sand) with their country-lilted cover of Page and Plant’s original Please Read The Letter from Walking Into Clarksdale. They’ll be up against Coldplay in the Best Record of The Year and Album Of The Year. Someone please tell me the difference ! Big things for Estelle possibly with American Boy as Song Of The Year though Adelle might have something to say about that.

On the band front, it looks like Coldplay (ah..ouch) but perennial country rockers Eagles might pip them with Waiting In The Weeds, while Maroon 5 are outsiders.

Both great songs by a duo are Gnarls Barkley and One Republic. One Republic win hands down with the brilliant Apologize.

Radiohead for Album Of The Year? No. No chance, for Ne-Yo either.

The Verdict : Excellent comp.
