Elvis Presley: Love, Elvis

Distributed by
Sony/BMG

    Cover
  • Released: January 2005
  • Rating: 10/10
  • Cat.no.: 82876674482

With the record books about to be re-written as the Elvis singles frenzy continues to sweep the nation, Sony/BMG bring out another well-timed offering.

This is presumably an effort to get Elvis at number one in the album charts, breaking further records. Nevertheless, Love,Elvis is a great 24-tracker that will also capitalise on the Valentine’s Day market. Inevitably,it includes some of the current UK singles - Are You Lonesome Tonight?, It’s Now Or Never, A Fool Such As I, Surrender and The Wonder Of You

The remainder are singles and album tracks which have previously been spread around over the years. Incredibly track 2, Can’t Help Falling In Love never made it as an A-side single release, which is one of his greatest ever ballads. His definitive cover of Peggy Lee’s classic Fever was never released either as a single but became one of his show-stoppers in concert.

Always On My Mind is here, though I prefer Willie Nelson’s version. The collection goes right back to the ‘50’s with Presley’s third release – the doo-wop I Want You, I Need You, I Love You from July 1956, to the early ‘70’s – including I Just Can’t Help Believin’, and There Goes My Everything.

Bonus wise, you get a loungy cabaret For The Good Times, previously unreleased take. There’s none of his out and out Rock’n’Roll for obvious reasons – it ain’t good for the old romancing routine.

The Elvis ’68 Comeback Special and Aloha From Hawaii and are both in the top 20 music DVD charts.

The ultimate Elvis experience – his emotionally charged gospel climax on both CD (and DVD), the incredible If I Can Dream.
