ACORN MEDIA is delighted to announce the DVD release of the first series of the hugely popular crime drama George Gently. Originally broadcast on BBC One and based on the Inspector Gently novels by Alan Hunter, George Gently stars British acting legend Martin Shaw (Judge John Deed, Rhodes) as the eponymous London detective and critically acclaimed newcomer Lee Ingleby (Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Street) as his partner DS John Bacchus.
The year is 1964. Inspector George Gently is known for his relentless pursuit of notorious gangsters in London – as well as the crooked cops that cover their tracks. Following the murder of his wife by notorious gangster Joe Webster (Philip Davis – Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders) Inspector Gently’s mind turns to retirement. But when he hears about the murder of a young motorcyclist that bears all the hallmarks of a Webster murder, Gently decides to move to Northumberland, take on one last case and bring his wife’s killer to justice. Paired with the young, headstrong DS Bacchus, Gently has the added responsibility of keeping his eager new partner in check, at the same time trying to prove Webster’s guilt.
Series one, consisting of the pilot and two subsequent episodes of this gripping detective drama, will be available on DVD presented in a stunning three-disc box set, on 25 May 2009 courtesy of Acorn Media.
The DVD is released on May 25th, it runs for 266 mins and retails for £24.99 on DVD,
