STARRING PAUL BETTANY, JENNIFER CONNELLY, JEREMY NORTHAM, TOBY JONES & BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

Icon Home Entertainment announces the 18 January 2010 Blu-ray and DVD release of the ‘thought-provoking and genuinely moving’ film CREATION starring BAFTA® nominee Paul Bettany (The Young Victoria) and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Connolly (A Beautiful Mind) - Perfect viewing for the whole family on a cold winter’s day.

‘One of the best British films this year’ (Country Life magazine), this stunning production also features the acting talents of Jeremy Northam (The Tudors), Toby Jones (Mrs Henderson Presents) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Other Boleyn Girl). Told in a dazzling collage of scenes from the past and present, laced with stories of exotic animals and the dark dreams of a troubled mind, CREATION is a film that will provoke, entertain and ultimately deeply move.

CREATION is a fascinating, compelling and deeply moving film about one of the greatest scientists ever, Charles Darwin (Bettany). It shows an insight to his life and studies never before seen on film as he battles between the adoration of his wife (Connolly) and family and a compulsion to seek the truth about the life around us. Lushly shot, brilliantly written and heart-renderingly acted CREATION is a must-see for fans of quality period drama and anyone with an interest in Charles Darwin and his world-changing publication On The Origin of Species.

As well as an audio commentary from director Jon Amiel, an array of intelligent and thought-provoking special features includes The History Channel television special Creation: The Battle for Charles Darwin.

Darwin’s great, still controversial book ‘On the Origin of Species’ depicts nature as a battleground. In CREATION the battleground is a man’s heart. Torn between his love for his deeply religious wife and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place, Darwin finds himself caught in a struggle between faith and reason, love and truth.

The Darwin we meet in CREATION is a young, vibrant father, husband and friend whose mental and physical health gradually buckles under the weight of guilt and grief.

Ultimately it is Annie (Martha West), his adored 10 year-old daughter who leads him out of darkness and helps him reconnect with his wife and family. Only then is he able to create the book that changed the world.

Bursting with stunning cinematography of beautiful landscapes and the cutest chimpanzee any fans of Miss Potter or Finding Neverland will adore CREATION as a comparable tale of the man behind the historical publication.

Directed by Jon Amiel (Entrapment, Sommersby, The Singing Detective) from a screenplay by John Collee (Master and the Commander: The Far Side of the World, Happy Feet), based upon Randal Keynes’ book, ‘Annie’s Box’, about the life of his great great grandfather Charles Darwin.

The Blu-ray is released on January 18th, it runs for 90 mins and sells on Amazon for £14.98 (RRP £24.99), with a DVD version for £10.98 (RRP £17.99).
