      Easily goes to Tania Bryer. When Barry Norman asked this demented woman to look behind her at a special sight, he meant the man dressed in a toga costume. Upon seeing Phil Collins, she excitedly said "Ooh, yes I'll be talking to him later", after which Barry and colleagues laughed their arses off at her incompetence.

      The award was presented by me.

    Runner-ups Idiot of the Night Award:

    • Whoever handed out the failing microphones to announcer Peter Coyote and everyone else who had to speak.
    • Whoever was in charge of the microphones when Barry Norman handed back to the Oscars, but it was delayed and we heard a "What happened?"
