Stuck for something to do this weekend? The list of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest
of the country.
The new films out include: 1408, Breach and No Reservations.
According to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
it must've been a daunting task to marry contempory ambient music with
literature from the past, but Tangerine Dream seem to have pulled it off.

A murder proves to be an inconvenience in Jindabyne on DVD...
Released next week:
Starring Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney, four men chance upon
the body of a young woman in the river, but choose to continue their fishing
trip instead of reporting it to the police. This causes tension far exceeding
their original expectations and proves to be a rather bad decision, but can
they make amends?
Jindabyne
is online and out on DVD from next Monday.
Hummingbird prove their tough credentials on CD...
Their debut album is a combination of immense talents, says
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
producing an 11-track album which brings together their playing of acoustic
guitars, mandolin and piano with cultured and sweet vocal contributions.
Big Brother's Amanda on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
As Big Brother reaches its final week and the winner looks like a two-horse
race between three people - the twins, Amanda and Sam, and Brian - here's a
fantastic clip from last week's highlights in which Amanda was given a loudhaler
after constantly breaking her microphones, and was instructed only to talk
through that. While brushing her teeth, she squared up to one camera and
hit her toothbrush on the loudhaler quite hard, giving a result most
heterosexual men can only dream about...
Also uploaded recently is a BBC Breakfast interview with Edward Woodward
talking about a new director's cut of The Wicker Man, Tom Skerritt discussing
Top Gun's 21st anniversary, Jenny Eclair on Big Brother's Little Brother,
Dick and Dom on that same show, plus a piece about Anthony H Wilson's funeral
on North West Tonight.

DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
returns with his movie news section which looks at future
releases and features US and UK Top 10 cinema listings, UK release dates,
movie websites and trailers.
Well, it would be if I drank coffee, but to compare it to a cup of tea, there's
just something about a fantastic brew that's just what the waitress ordered,
and this indie comedy is a nice breath of fresh air compared to some of the
mainstream stuff that gets released.
The fantastic cast includes Marsha Thomason, Mena Suvari, Breckin Meyer,
Mark Pellegrino, Andrew Lee Potts, Sonya Walger and Katherine Heigl.
Caffeine
is online and out on DVD from next Monday.
Can Kristin Hersh sing like a star on CD...?
According to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
after 10 years and 15 albums she still hasn't made the grade, despite having
a lilt in her voice similar to Cerys Matthews, just what is it that's not
working out for her?
The recent competitions below have now ended and the winners will be notified
shortly. The answers are as follows:
Yes: Classic Artists (DVD): Rick Wakeman was a regular contributor on Grumpy Old Men.
If... (DVD): Malcolm McDowell starred in A Clockwork Orange.
Classic Paramount Originals (DVD): The Italian Job was remade in 2003 with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron.
Number 23 (DVD): Virginia Madsen co-starred in Highlander 2.
Sarah Beeny on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
Property Ladder goddess Sarah Beeny is one of Channel 4's stars promoting
their new Plus One channel that starts today on Sky 135 as well as on Freeview
and Virgin Media, and, basically, plays Channel 4 programmes one hour later.
In this trailer, dare you challenge the might of the Beeny?
Also uploaded recently is a BBC Breakfast interview with Julian Clary
talking about his new book, Murder Most Fab, as well as everything else
he's been up to in his career, actor Tom Ellis appearing on Big Brother's
Little Brother, Ralf Little being interview on Breakfast, two new trailers
for the new series of The It Crowd, an example of the stupid butchering of
the end credits of Grumpy Old Women, plus other promo trailers for Channel 4
Plus One featuring the Friday Night Project and Skins.

Sean Bean leads the Outlaws on DVD...
In Outlaw (£15.99, Fox, out now), after returning from a tour of duty in Iraq, former Paratrooper
Bryant (Sean Bean) is appalled by what he sees in a country he no longer recognises. Determined to do
something about it, he assembles a group of like-minded souls who resolve to restore the balance between right
and wrong, good and evil, enforcing justice with a brutality to match that of the once unpunished wrongdoers.
Also starring Danny Dyer, Bob Hoskins, Lennie James and coming from the director of The Football Factory,
the extras include Bonus footage, Deleted scenes, 'Making of' documentary, Commentary (Nick Love - Director,
Danny Dyer, Sean Bean), Other documentaries ('Stunts' 'Guns') and Cast/Filmaker notes.
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
refers to this lady as "a class act, rare amongst her generation" for this
12-track album with a clever mix of MOR jazz, hip-hop and soul.
Comparisons are also made with Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan.
PaRappa's back... and this time he's portable, on the Sony PSP...
Yes, this is a 10-year-old game resurrected for the modern market. Is it
still entertaining? Yes, but it has some flaws, not least that it doesn't
take very long to complete. Still, if you have the time, and twenty quid,
then you can help PaRappa believe again!
An engaging British romcom - such things are very hard to come by these
days - featuring Jack Ryder, Andrew-Lee Potts, Colette Brown, Laura
Aikman and the stunning Jodi Albert, the former plays Danny,
who's in love with the girl at the local cinema multiplex who tears up
tickets and he'll do anything to get with her, even if it means taking a
job there...
Take in some laid-back blues from Joan Armatrading on CD...
A very tasty album is how
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
describes the latest work from Joan Armatrading, the artist who many will
know for the classic hits Love and Affection and Drop the Pilot,
but did you think the blues would be in her nature? Have a listen...
'Mr Manchester' Tony Wilson's last TV interview on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
I was saddened to hear of the death of Tony Wilson who I thought was one of those people who should've been
allowed to live forever. He's one of the few people who, from his radio shows to TV shows to music signings
and the Hacienda - as well as having a film made about his life, has done so many things in his life and been
successful in them all.
RIP Tony, you will be greatly missed. I'm also a big fan of the Politics Show and he presented many of the
North West editions in the past year. It's so great to see someone do so well and still remain true to their
roots.
I've got a number of Youtube clips online, all linked from the first one, when he was on North West Tonight last
month talking about his condition and the bands who were funding his Sutent treatment. There's also a couple of
News 24 announcements and, finally, while doing the Politics Show on Sunday 13th May, his mobile phone went
off at a rather inopportune moment, which was rather amusing...
Please take a look at the clips. Most of the comments are appearing on the first of these clips and, since I
hadn't seen the news all evening on Friday, the first I knew about his death was when I saw three posts in
quick succession on that clip and wondered why... and then I saw :(
Also uploaded recently is one of a number of Weetabix adverts doing the rounds on TV which ape old-style
BBC2 channel idents from the '90s, this one being a 'dust splash'. Take a look and you'll see what I mean.
Another classic Neil Young concert, this one from 1971, live on CD...
Released earlier this year, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
this live CD ranks alongside the likes of Nirvana Unplugged, Eric Clapton
Unplugged, The Who Live at Leeds and James Brown Live at the Apollo.
Does it meet with your similar approval?

On the advice of her mum and a co-worker, she decides to let it out. Neither of the advisors has any idea what
the secret was, however - or that it involved a canine. Things get predictably manic as John struggles to

A classic Neil Young concert from 1970, live on CD...
Released towards the tail end of last year, this CD still warrants your
attention as Neil Young and Crazy Horse performed at this New York venue
and this album, brought to you by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
runs just over 40 minutes, covering six great tracks.
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
returns with his movie news section which looks at future
releases and features US and UK Top 10 cinema listings, UK release dates,
movie websites and trailers.
A number of films tend to throw together great talent and produce a film
that works well for a while and then falls apart from the second half.
This one combines Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench and Bill Nighy
and keeps the interest throughout, even managing to come up with an absolute
blinder of an ending.
This one is definitely a treat to enjoy with some wonderful acting from
all concerned.
Take on some Mech mayhem on Armored Core 4 on the Xbox 360...
There's nothing like a good blast with 'crash, bang, wallop' going on as
you decimate all that stands around you, beating the living daylights out
of any challenger that dares to take you on, but despite all that, there's
something that doesn't quite sit right with this latest release in the
series and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Gaz Williams
tells us what this is.
Rupert Everett 'fingers' Susannah Reid on Breakfast on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
Ok, so we know that these days Rupert Everett (right) is not into
girls any more, but back when he was a youngster, he recalled such a moment
on last Friday's Breakfast, when it came to telling us how back in the
day he didn't have a TV and so the only moving pictures he got to see were
in the 'dark and sexy' Embassy Theatre in Braintree, Essex, "where you could
finger your girlfriend a bit", which gave Susannah Reid such a shock it
straightened her hair...
Also uploaded recently a number of clips from Big Brother including
Charley and Chanelle on BBLB (separately, but the latter made two appearances),
Chanelle having a row with Ziggy and then leaving, taken from last Tuesday's
highlights show, a previously-seen interview with the delightful Susie Dent
on Breakfast from last October, given that she was also on BBLB this past
week (also uploaded), a previously uploaded moment of when Preston walked
out of Buzzcocks and... something rarely seen these days, the end credits of
BBC1 soap Neighbours shown totally continuity-announcer free! Savour
them.
Lisa Gerrard puts out an enchanting collection on CD...
With a career that's lasted 20 years, since the beginning of the gothic duo
Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard has put out a retrospective that
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
calls "enchanting" and "superbly created".
Stuck for something to do this weekend? The list of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest
of the country.
The new films out include: Wind Chill, The Hoax and Happily N'Ever After.
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, The Perfect Storm) and with
a cast that includes Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfuss, who had his
own water-based problems in Jaws, you'd think this remake of the 1972
classic would be on a good footing, but
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
can easily spot where this particular ship-saga has its holes...
