We all like a laugh, and I enjoy having a regular one particularly at the
Manchester Comedy Store, but what I'd like to see the most is the annual
Edinburgh Festival, and this new movie takes that as its base, all from
the director/writer of the excellent Channel 4 comedy/drama The Book Group,

Can Michael Jackson still be considered 'Essential'...?
He was cleared of all charges, but can he regain the tatters of what used to
be a major pop career?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
takes a listen to this new compilation to see if it's really as 'essential'
as his record company would have you believe.

From the home of Peter Kay,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
went to see one of the biggest bands around at the moment recently, but as Chris
Martin starts to endlessly waffle about world politics, does this make
the band's music progressively bland and, thus, will they end up the next
Travis?
CHARTS: Elton John vs. 2pac & Elton John - who got the No.1...?
Yes, there was the possibility that the high chart entry from Elton John,
helped by free downloads attached to a competition, might end up knocking
himself off the top slot, or can someone else sneak in for a go?

DVD and Game highlights out now...
A few highlights that are well worth splashing out your moolah on next week. For each one that's of interest,
click on the image for more info on Amazon:
The Interpreter (£19.99, out August 15th from Universal Pictures Video)
is Nicole Kidman's latest film to reach DVD, in which she plays African-born U.N. interpreter Silvia
who inadvertently overhears a death threat against an African head of state scheduled to address the U.N.
General Assembly. Realising she’s become a target of the assassins as well, Silvia becomes desperate to
thwart the plot... if only she can survive long enough to get someone to believe her.
Tobin Keller (Sean Penn), the federal agent charged with protecting Silvia, suspects she might not be
telling the whole truth. Silvia and Tobin see life from different points of view: Silvia believes in
the power and sanctity of words while Tobin believes in reading people based on their behaviour, no
matter what is said.
Extras include: Deleted Scenes, Alternate Ending, Audio Commentary with Director Sydney Pollack,
‘A Day in the Life of Real Interpreters’ featurette, Sydney Pollack at Work: From Concept to Cutting
Room, Interpreting Pan & Scan vs Widescreen, The Ultimate Movie Set: The United Nations.
Note the difference in covers. The one on the right was the original, but since the London bombings on
July 7th, it's been replaced so that it doesn't feature one with a bus being blown up on the front.
Given that Ken Livingstone, the Chief of the Metropolitan Police and others have said that the country
should carry on as normal, why do they then pander to the terrorists by doing the opposite with things
like the cancelling of TV shows and film broadcasts - which weren't planned to coincide with anything,
the changing of packshots - which wasn't planned to coincide with anything, and enforced two minutes'
silence all over the shop - the increase in these just diluting the main one in November and coming about
more frequently since the death of Princess Diana.
WWE Road Warriors (£24.99, Silver Vision) is out now.
Hawk and Animal, better known as the Legion of Doom, were the only tag-team ever to hold all three major
titles – WCW, AWA and WWE. This DVD charts their journey from their debut in the early 1980s to the
tragic death of Hawk in 2003 and features the most memorable bouts and interviews.
A special double DVD package with nearly six hours of footage.
Extras include matches from NWA Championship Wrestling in 1983 to WWE Raw in 1997, Exclusive commentary by
Jim Ross & Animal, Hawk tribute, promos, interviews, music video and more...
Saint Seiya (£39.99, Atari), also out now, is a classic 2D fighting game.
We also take a look at the latest in the Formula 1 series,
F1 05 (£39.99, Sony), which has the following features:
New Competition: Go online for the ultimate head-to-head racing experience where you can battle against players from all over the world; prove yourself in the world ranking ladders where your best lap time and average speeds across circuits are judged

New Features: Including new interactive pit stops, pre-race grid line-up set against a backdrop of mechanics, grid girls, journalists, cameramen and special events
New Career: Challenge yourself with the improved career mode options offering more depth than ever before for wannabe racers, increasing the longevity of the game play with a greater variety of tests and opportunities.

s well as the pits; and Pit Crew Reminders can be requested to deliver advice on tricky corners or correcting errors.
New Facts: Become a racing expert with the new information centre that includes driving tips for each track and a comprehensive glossary of FORMULA ONE terms and more...
Old & New: FORMULA ONE 05 lets you re-live the classic cars and the classic races as you unlock historic cars and new bonus tracks so you can make your own history.

icons after 30 seconds.
So, just set your recording a minute or two early, just to be sure, and

Now, if only we could do this to all the other bloody logos onscreen!

One of my best mates from Uni comes from Oswestry, but that has nothing to
do with this gig review, as
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
confirms that it doesn't take a 'Live 8' to host an 11-hour music marathon
as 15,000 fans thronged to the acts on this particular stage.
Liam Neeson plays Professor Alfred Kinsey, a man who, in 1948, managed to
explain to a generation that sex wasn't something to be shyed away from, but
will that make for a titillating movie about the subject?
It took far longer to sit through 14 hours of footage than I thought it
would do, but I finally managed it and as I delete the longest ever recording
from my TiVo it can breathe a sigh of relief (the 40Gb hard drive is usually
long enough for my purposes as I quickly archive anything that's a keeper to
DVD, but this kind of event only comes along every 20 years...)
Find out how the BBC's broadcast of this prestigious event went down.

Is the boogeyman real? Or did Tim make him up to explain why his father abandoned his family?

Finally, in
Conker: Live and Reloaded (£39.99, Microsoft),
Conker is back in an all-new, Xbox Live-enabled, team-based shooter. Conker is a cartoon rodent with a
penchant for booze, wild women and lewd conduct, and the world he lives in is a reflection of him.
With a wide variety of customisable multi-player scenarios available, the game centres on teamwork
and fun. Each scenario has its own objectives, rules, environment and back story that provide hilarious
gameplay and wacky entertainment. Also included is the original, critically acclaimed single-player
game, Conker's Bad Fur Day, with never-before-seen, uncensored content and completely revamped,
only-on-Xbox graphics and sound.
With multiple scenario-based gameplay modes, each with its own story, gamers will experience much more
than a "shoot everything" premise. In the team-based scenarios, players will be thrust into themed
environments that reflect the specific goals they are challenged to meet. The scenarios are designed
to be played by two or more teams at once, up to 16 players. Gamers can play various scenarios
including "The Heist", which pits four teams of four against each other in a deadly race to rob a
bank, or experience the never-ending onslaught of ravenous aliens attacking a lonely space outpost
in "Alien Base". Each scenario is highly customisable, allowing for dozens of variations in gameplay.
The single-player game Conker's Bad Fur Day is now on Xbox via this game. Highly bizarre
and unusual situations require creative thinking to solve puzzles and will leave gamers craving more.
Players will experience crazy and creative characters doing strange things in a huge, detailed and
offbeat world. Horny bees, slow-witted farm implements, singing piles of poo and even Death himself
(he's much shorter in person) are all par for the course. Movie pastiches on classic films are also included.
Tekken 5 squares up against the competition on PS2...
It's the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament and this time round it's what
Namco claim is a 'back to basics' approach for the game, but does that make
it any better than previous versions?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
recently went to the Chicago Rock Cafe in Wrexham to see a band who
adapt other people's songs into more of an R&B style, but is it a
successful venture?
