One of my favourite cartoon series as a child, I can now rejoice at the release of Doctor Snuggles: The
Complete Collection (£24.99, Firefly).
Doctor Snuggles is a cuddly little man, an incurable optimist who longs to make the world a better place. He
lives in his quaint house at the edge of the wood. It could be anywhere in the whole wide world. Doctor Snuggles
is an inventor. He invents a variety of wondrous contraptions in his shed at the bottom of the garden. Each
invention is specially designed to help children, animals and all living things everywhere.
His aims and dreams lead him in and out of many delightful adventures. Mostly things do not transpire exactly
the way Doctor Snuggles has planned, but along the way he gets caught up in a world of new friends and happy
happenings; brimful of magic, laughter and fantasy.

and razor-toothed baby sister Sue, as they try to thwart the demented plans of Count Olaf (Jim Carrey) as he
tries to get hold of their inheritance.

One of the best bands ever put together, their best times were definitely in the '80s, but
Level 42: Live At Rockpalast (£17.99, Wienerworld) runs for 188 minutes and features live footage
of the band from 1983 in Bochum and 1984 in Essen.
Tracklist includes: 'Heathrow', 'Dance On Heavy Weather', 'Turn It On', 'Sandstorm', 'Dune Tune',
'Almost There', 'Mr Pink', 'I Want Eyes', 'Kansas City Milkman' and 'Love Games'. Features 28
tracks in total.
Also released this week and last week are the following 'Live at Rockpalast' titles:
|
One of the iconic music TV shows of the '80s, The Tube Vol.1 (£29.99, Network) presents
the best live performances from the first series of 'The Tube - the groundbreaking, anarchic Friday night music
programme hosted by Jools Holland and - the late - Paula Yates.
As well as featuring up-and-coming acts, 'The Tube also played host to a number of well-established groups giving
live performances which, for the most part, have not been seen since their original transmission and have never
been released in any format before now.
The live spirit of the series (first broadcast on Bonfire Night 1982) is further underlined with the inclusion
of live interviews and behind the scenes footage, as well as original linking sequences from Jools and Paula.
Including sets from The Jam (in their last performance), Culture Club, Robert Palmer, Soft Cell, Iggy
Pop, Depeche Mode, The Stranglers, Thin Lizzy, Madness, Eurythmics, The Undertones and U2.
DVD extras include 'Inner Tube Stories' featurette - telling the story of the series by the team who
created and produced it, Stills gallery, Special embossed slipcase with UV finish.
What I want to know is whether this, or any future release, will replay the classic live TV trailer that got
Jools banned from hosting the show for several weeks, in which he shouted on early evening TV: "Get down
you groovy fuckers!"

Packed with your favourite characters, brand new sketches and classic sketches... Tubbs and Edward, Papa
Lazarou, Pauline and Mickey, Mr Chinnery, Herr Lipp and many more. An absolute must for all League fans.
Starring Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
DVD extras include movie footage from The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, Behind the scenes documentary,
Commentary, Photo gallery, Screensaver, Bonus scenes and phone calls, Selected multi-camera angles,

DVD highlights catch-up...
A few highlights that are well worth splashing out your moolah on. For each one that's of interest,
click on the image for more info on Amazon:
First up is the superhero film Daredevil Director's Cut (£19.99, 20th Century Fox), in which
Ben Affleck is Matt Murdock, a.k.a Daredevil. As a young boy he lost his sight in a chemical accident, which
left him with his other senses superhumanly enhanced (and some incredible acrobatic skills). Flash forward
and Matt is working by day as a pro bono lawyer (with partner Jon Favreau) and by night as a righteous avenger.
The plot sees New York supercriminal Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan) calling on Irish assassin Bullseye (Colin
Farrell) to take care of some business involving the father of Jennifer Garner's Elektra (with whom Matt falls
head over heels in love).
Daredevil is a shadowy comic book fantasy that provides plenty of fast-paced, high-kicking action.
This extended director's cut of Daredevil including 30 minutes of previously unseen footage and extras include
audio commentary by writer/director Mark Steven Johnson and producer Avi Arad, and Giving the Devil His Due: The
Making of Daredevil - The Director's Cut.
|
A brilliant BBC drama finally comes to DVD, State of Play (£19.99, BBC), from the creator of Shameless.
Paul Abbott's acclaimed BBC drama. Stephen Collins (David Morrissey) is an ambitious politician. Cal McAffrey
(John Simm) is a well-respected investigative journalist and Stephen's ex-campaign manager. En route to work one
morning, Stephen's research assistant mysteriously falls to her death on the London Underground. It's not long
before revelations of their affair hit the headlines.
DVD extras include audio commentary for episodes 1 & 6.
|
Dance for your life when the 2-disc Special Edition of Billy Elliot (£19.99, Universal)
reaches the DVD shelves this week.
Billy Elliot is the heartwarming tale of an 11 year old coal miner's son (Jamie Bell) in the North of England
who's life is forever changed when he stumbles upon Mrs Wilkinson's (Julie Walters) ballet class during his weekly
boxing lesson. Before long, he finds himself immersed in ballet, demonstrating a raw talent never seen before and
reaching for a dream that changes the lives of everyone he touches.
DVD extras include The Real Billy Elliot Diaries, From Screen To Stage, Breaking Free (making of with optional
commentary), Deleted scenes, Extended scenes, The Music (9 songs from the film with optional commentary).
|
Finally, for the DVDs, 'May the Schwartz Be With You'. Yes, it's the Star Wars spoof,
Spaceballs: Special Edition (£19.99, MGM) out in time for the third and final real prequel.
The Farce will be with you in this outrageously hilarious send-up of epic sci-fi movies, created by comic genius
Mel Brooks. Boasting a cast of cosmic crazies, it's a four-star comedy sensation that scores eight trillion on
the laugh meter! Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), whose hairstyle surely ranks as one of the universe's oldest
creations, is kidnapped by the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). But fear not! Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his
half man, half dog sidekick Barf (John Candy), blast into action in their space Winnebago, struggling against
time (and their own limited intelligence) to rescue the Princess.
Along the way they'll confront the gooey Pizza the Hutt, a sassy robot named Dot Matrix, and a little creature
called Yogurt who possesses the mystical power of the Swartz. The gags fly faster than laserblasts as the
fearless and clueless space heroes wage interstellar warfare for life, liberty and the pursuit of massive
merchandising opportunities. Lampooning everything from Star Wars and Alien to Planet of the Apes, this
hysterically funny space oddity will send you into hyperspace with fits of laughter!
DVD extras include audio commentary with Mel Brooks, Spaceballs documentary, 'John Candy: Comic Spirit'
documentary, 'Mel Brooks' featurette, Storyboard to film comparison, Film flubs, Spacequotes, Photo galleries,
3 theatrical trailers.

Game highlights catch-up...
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (£34.99, PS2), puts players in the shoes of one of 3 characters from the series; Major
Motoko Kusanagi, Bateau, or the Tachikoma spider tank. The story begins when Major Kusanagi and Section 9 officer
Bateau are sent on a mission to shatter the illegal arms trade of a fearsome terrorist organisation, gradually
unveiling a dark conspiracy.
The ability to hack into the minds of enemy's brain and temporarily control them lets players launch devastating
attacks from within the enemy ranks and makes for incredibly original gameplay. Laying waste to an unsuspecting
host of opponents by controlling the mind of one of their own kind is an exhilarating experience, and even when
they realise and gun their assailant down, the connection simply closes and control reverts to the player's
chosen character who remains completely unharmed.
Features:
- Play as Major Motoko Kusanagi, Bateau and Tachikoma.
- Over 20 minutes of beautifully rendered CGI Ghost in the Shell FMV
- 15 Weapon types to choose from. From sniper rifles to sub-machine guns and missile launchers!
- Hack into machinery, computers, and control your enemies' minds from a distance
- Engaging single player story mode with an informative tutorial that gets you into martial arts action quickly
- Multiplayer combat for up to 4 players including both team matches and battle royal
- Complete the Story Mode to unlock additional features
- 3 Difficulty Levels to challenge even the most experienced gamers.

its wake. As one of only a few survivors, players must struggle with shock, fear, and an all-out assault on
their senses as they fight their way to Hell and back, in an epic clash against pure evil. Built on id's
revolutionary new 3D graphics engine, DOOM III draws players into the most frightening and gripping 3D
gaming experience ever created.
The game features:
- The most intensely realistic and visually stunning game yet - with the look and feel of a computer-rendered movie
- Struggle with shock and fear as you fight your way in an epic clash against pure evil
- Incredible, advanced 3D graphics and physics, with surround sound and real-time dynamic lighting
- Compete in vicious multiplayer action where you'll use light, shadows and a totally dynamic world to your advantage

world... isn't it just a rehash of "The End of the World"?
