Candi Staton on CD - the real queen of soul...?
As
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
states at the start of his review,
"Joss Stone, Macy Gray and Corinne Bailey Rae are making a good living
out of being 'soul pretenders' - now comes the real thing" and I don't
think this lady's latest album can be summed up any more differently than
that.

The Doctor is back... and it's about time...
Last year,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
kept us up to date with the latest ongoings for the then-new Doctor, Christopher
Eccleston, but now he's become David Tennant, does the future bode well for
his new appearance?
This week he travelled to the New Earth in the year 5,000,000,023, since the
last one was blown up 23 years earlier (and given the number of years it takes
water companies to fix a leak I'm surprised anyone could build a whole planet
in not much longer), and Cassandra is back to do battle with her foe.
Doctor Who 2.1: New Earth
is online now and the series continues this Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC1.

Frantic handheld action... with Pursuit Force on Sony PSP...
There are some who might not be sure what a handheld console is capable
of, but while so many of the Nintendo DS games tend to be about cute little
animals doing not very much, the Sony PSP is putting out a performance
like this exceptional driver/shooter, the pace and speed of which make
it as close to the 'Burnout' series as you'll get on a portable device.
Pursuit Force
is online and out on PSP now.

It's been a long time since I listened to Radio 1 on a regular basis and
I'm pig sick of Chris Moyles for sure, but another of their alleged DJs,

radio show?

Toni (£19.99, Eureka) is out on April 17th.
Financed by Marcel Pagnol's production company, Jean Renoir's Toni is a landmark in French filmmaking.
Based on a police dossier concerning a provincial crime of passion, it was lensed by Claude Renoir on
location (unusually for the time) in the small town of Les Martigues where the actual events occurred.
The use of directly-recorded sound, authentic patois, lack of make-up, a large ensemble cast of local
citizens in supporting roles, and Renoir's steadfast desire to avoid melodrama lead to Toni often being
labeled "the first neorealist film". Renoir himself disagreed. Although Toni is acknowledged as a masterly
forerunner of neo-realist preoccupations and techniques he wrote: "I do not think that is quite correct.
The Italian films are magnificent dramatic productions, whereas in Toni I was at pains to avoid the dramatic."
Extras: Newly struck progressive transfer. Full-length audio commentary by Kent Jones and Phillip Lopate.

booklet featuring an essay by Tom Milne + more.

and seething malice.
There is no plan too devious, no plot too cunning, no depths to which they would not sink in order
to win the battle for social supremacy. Using their deadly weapons of garden parties, bridge evenings
and charming teas, the two combatants strive to outcharm each other as they vie for the position of
toast of the town... The Complete Series is presented across 3 discs.

Pursuit Force (£34.99, Sony) is out now on Sony PSP.
Pursuit Force sees a time where rising crime and mounting gang tensions make Capital City's streets a
dangerous place. Meeting the hardened criminals with force is the job of a new type of cop working for
the Pursuit Force team, an elite police division where the ends justify the means. Set across five
districts controlled by violent criminals, Pursuit Force features more than 30 cases to crack in a
non-stop festival of speed. The action takes place across an entire fictional American state, as the
law gets tough on a new breed of gangs.
As a young, cocky and street tough cop, the player is tasked with bringing to justice five of the State's
most infamous gangs, including the Vixens, a foxy group of ex-stunt girls who chose a life of crime
to pay for their daring Hollywood lifestyles and outfits. Trained in martial arts, weapons design and
death-defying stunts, the Vixens are hell-bent on living the high-life that Hollywood denied them.
Led by Whiplash and The Fox, the sexy Vixens are a deadly combination of strategy and style.
Assisted by the old-school, short-tempered Chief of the Pursuit Force who likes to play by the book,
players find themselves immersed in an adrenaline fuelled, high speed chase across 400km of city streets,
freeways and off-road tracks, in their battle to outsmart the bad guys and rid the state of crime.
When ground assaults are unfeasible, take to the skies and man the Pursuit Force chopper, a prototype
assault vehicle. Housing the latest mini gun technology and capable of firing 600 rounds per minute,
shredding targets to devastating effect, this machine is specially designed for effective urban warfare.
Combining the latest carbon fibre armour technology with high speed and excellent maneuverability,
the helicopter team's remit is to provide support to the cop on the ground and in the air.
Whether jumping between high speed cars and helicopters or chasing down the foxy Vixens, Killer 66
or other hardened criminals, Pursuit Force takes justice into its own hands, setting a new standard
for action, gameplay and graphics on the PSP.

Key of Heaven (£34.99, Sony) is out now on Sony PSP.
Three hundred years ago, the known world consisted of 9 continents spread across a vast ocean. The
centre of this world was "Ohka", a wondrous continent rich in Oriental mysticism.
Ohka was ruled by five "Bumon," or houses of martial arts, each boasting their own unique fighting style.
It soon became apparent that invading forces led by the "Demonic General" from "Sema", a continent far
to the west of Ohka, threatened the rule of the Bumon's.
Following a fierce battle, the five Bumon's finally brought the war to a close, "sealing" the Demonic
General in Ohka by means of a mysterious "Key".
With the war ended, all believed that peace would reign eternally....
The story begins with Shinbu, a young boy residing in a village near the Gate of Seiryu, earning his
living as a hired bodyguard for travelers visiting the area.
A few years earlier, his parents left on a trip from which they never returned. Rumor had it that
his father and mother met with an unfortunate accident. Shinbu now lives with his foster father, Seidatsu.
Like his father, Hohaku, who was adept in the martial arts, Shinbu was a disciple of the Gate
of Seiryu. However, Shinbu was expelled from the Bumon when he was caught attempting to read
the "Monument of Secrets", a right he had yet to earn.
One day, while returning to his village after delivering a traveler to safety, Shinbu saves a girl
named Suirin - a disciple of the Gate of Seiryu - from being attacked by members of the Gate of Kirin.
Suirin was on her way to see Shinbu.
When Suirin learns that her rescuer is the one she seeks, she informs Shinbu that a party from the
Gate of Kirin raided the Gate of Seiryu, and that the Master of the Gate of Seiryu and all his
disciples - with the exception of herself - are dead. She goes on to explain that the group took
the Divine Sword of Seiryu.
As the only survivor of her Bumon, Suirin sought Shinbu in the hope that he would help her recover
the sword and restore the Gate of Seiryu. Having been deemed unworthy and expelled from the Gate of
Seiryu, Shinbu was troubled by Suirin's request. However, his doubts are dismissed when Seidatsu,
his foster father, hands him the "Singing Sword" which was bequeathed to Shinbu by his father, Hohaku.
Armed with the wise teachings of Seidatsu and his father's sword, Shinbu decides to join Suirin in her quest....
Playing as Shinbu, use your deadly swordsmanship skills to avenge your clan's decimation and restore
the balance of powers across the land.

Ape Escape P (£34.99, Sony) is out on May 5th on Sony PSP.
When a trouble-making monkey named Specter gets hold of the Professor's Peak Point Helmet, chaos ensues.
The powerful device, which can increase a human's intelligence, has a disastrous effect on Specter,
transforming him from a sweet, mischievous monkey to a power-hungry monster who has his heart set
on ruling the world. The power of the helmet enabled Specter to break free from his cage while also
allowing him to free hundreds of other monkeys at the zoo. Specter and the monkeys escape to a
nearby laboratory where the Professor, who created the Peak Point Helmet, is working on his latest
invention, a time machine.
Taking control of the laboratory, Specter and the other monkeys use the
time machine to escape into the past. The adventure begins when the player takes on the role of
a brave young boy named Spike, a friend of the Professor. Spike's mission is to pursue Specter
and the monkeys who have fled to the past in order to prevent them from changing history and
taking over the world.
Features:
- The Ape Escape franchise, made popular on the PlayStation game console and PlayStation2, expands its horizons as it debuts onto the PSP, featuring crisp graphics and fun gameplay.
- Featuring Wi-Fi wireless Ad Hoc connectivity, Ape Escape P enables gamers in close proximity to utilize the multiplayer mode and play a variety of mini-games with friends.
- Mini-games such as snowboarding, boxing, racing and Ping Pong makes
Ape Escape P fun for the entire family!
- Help Spike capture more than 200 monkeys throughout eight vibrant worlds spanning more than 20 levels.
- An Enemy Book tracks all of the enemies that gamers defeat. Once a player defeats five of the same kind of enemy, they will get an entry in the Enemy Book of that enemy along with a description and an image of the adversary as it appears in the game.
Players can then rotate and view the images from different angles.
- Utilize gadgets such as a Time Net, Monkey Radar and RC Car to help capture the monkeys.

SOCOM 3 US Navy SEALs (£29.99, Sony) is out on April 21st on PS2.
Protect America from enemy forces in urban and rural warfare throughout the world in SOCOM 3:
U.S. NAVY SEALs, exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. SOCOM 3 builds on
the strengths of the multimillion-selling franchise to firmly establish both single-player and
multiplayer as equally outstanding game experiences. Created in association with the U.S. Naval
Warfare, SOCOM 3 is as close as you can get to being a Navy SEAL on PlayStation 2.
Explore three new Areas of Operation (AO): Morocco, Poland, and Bangladesh. Streaming environment
technology allows gameplay maps to be five to six times larger than in SOCOM II: U.S. NAVY SEALs.
In addition, multiple save points eliminate having to replay a failed mission from the beginning,
allowing for seamless progression through the plotline.
For the first time in the SOCOM series, land and water vehicles play a central role in the gameplay
experience. Vehicles are drivable by both players and AI and cover a range of military and civilian
vehicles including tactical turret-equipped pickups and the SEAL-team configured military Humvee
and SOC-R Assault Boat.
The innovative new weapon customization system in SOCOM 3 allows players to use more than 30 different
weapons and attachments, resulting in nearly1,000 different weapon combinations. The new Team Command
Actions (TCA) allows you to quickly give your teammates context sensitive commands such as move to,
breach, and more, simply by pointing at the location and pressing a single button. Combined with more
complex team and enemy AI behavior, SOCOM 3 presents a fully immersive and more intense tactical experience
than ever before.
Features:
- New areas of operation
- Land and water vehicles
- 31 authentic weapons and 21 compatible attachments
- Complex AI behaviour
- Gameplay maps five to six times the size of those in SOCOM II
