As broadcast on Channel 4 last night and hosted by Graham Norton,
you can find a complete list of the 100 greatest TV adverts of all time.
Of the Top 10 though, I only partake occasionally of three of the advertised
items: Walkers, Tango and always Electricity. Countering the rest, I only use
Lynx deodrant, I don't smoke, I don't wear brand-name jeans, I only drink cider,
vodka or Southern Comfort and I'll never eat mashed potato again following
the hospital variant I ate endlessly after my
aortic valve replacement operation
exactly 6 years to the day.

Don't wrestle with your partner or your conscience. Play WWF Smackdown on Sony Playstation...
The game contains plenty of options (including create your own players)
and all 36 characters from the game, each with their own FMV intro movie
including Paul Bearer, The Rock, The Undertaker, Big Show and my favourites,
Tori and Debra ;)
WWF Smackdown
is online and out on Sony Playstation now.
Liza Tarbuck to quit The Big Breakfast...
After less than a year, the daughter of that irritating, unfunny and generally
rude man Jimmy, Liza Tarbuck, is set to quit the breakfast show
in the summer.
She's said to want to return to acting and it's been rumoured that the early
mornings were a deciding factor.
Who will take over after the success of Denise Van (not Van) Outen
and the failure of Kelly Brook ? The only name tipped to date is
The 11 O'Clock Show's Daisy Donovan.
Kevin Spacey - what WERE you thinking...?!
On Thursday I reported that American Beauty star Kevin Spacey
was planning to star in a remake of the Pink Panther films as Inspector Clouseau.
However, he has confirmed that he has no plans to star as Clouseau right now,
but may consider it again when he's actually read the scripts (!)
Bjork - never to make another film again...?
After making her debut in Lars Von Trier's Dancer In The
Dark, Bjork had such a bad time with her costumes that she
ripped up a blouse she was asked to wear and ate it.
Nicole Appleton is HONESTly embarrassed...
All Saint Nicole Appleton, the ugly one compared to her drop-dead
gorgeous sister Natalie, is said to be less than impressed following seeing
certain scenes from their forthcoming film, Honest.
Apparently she feels "helpless with embarrassment" after seeing the result
of the topless scenes within.
Perhaps she could help herself feel better by persuading her sister to
part with an autograph like she should've done last Friday (see Monday 24th's
update for this news)
Honest, directed by Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, is
released in late May.
TLC's Chilli is hot stuff...
One third of the American all-girl group TLC, Chilli is to
pose nude for the US magazine, Allure.
She is said to be embarrassed getting changed in regular changing rooms so
stripping off for a magazine article is a "big step" for her.
Of the others to appear in the same article, the only one of any interest
is Sex and the City's Kim Catrall. (swoon)
Britney whips out the plastic about town...
No, she didn't get her "tits oot for the lads", but the plastic in question
was her credit card.
She spent £12,000 in 45 minutes at Gucci, Tiffany and Selfridges in
London. The money went on items such as designer shoes, perfume, jewellery
and toys.
What a waste when she could've bought a home cinema system for me!
Stream Digital Media creates its 150th DVD, East is East...
Thanks to Sally Hart-Ives from Stream Digital Media, a division of 4MC
Limited, for the following press release in which I'm informed they have
completed their 150th DVD disc.
Thanks also to Michelle from Media Communications for the review copy I
received today and a full review shall appear shortly.
East is East, a FilmFour production distributed by VCI, was voted
Evening Standard Film of the Year in 1999 and recently won the best film award
at the BAFTAs.
Stream have 2 year's experience in DVD production, and used their complete
range of skills and equipment for East is East. The production team
created the unique moving menus in their own design studio. They also created
the graphics complete with a "space hopper" transition (using 3D Studio Max).
A Digital Vision Bit Pack v.3 was used for encoding video and Spruce
Technologies' DVDMaestro for authoring. After the many production processes
and testing, the data is then downloaded to a DLT, ready to send to a
replicator.
The audio options were also given the full treatment. It is in 5.1 English.
An audio descriptive track for the visually impaired was also added and the
director's commentary (Damien O'Donnell) recorded within 4MC's sound studio.
Other features included on the DVD are deleted scenes, interviews with the
cast and previously unseen footage recorded behind the scenes.
Stream Digital Media provides the complete DVD production solution. Services
include design and consultancy, encoding, authoring, testing. As a division of
4MC UK, Stream Digital Media also has access to a wide range of post production
facilities within the group that include: telecine, sound suites, linear and
non-linear editing and duplication.

On April 25th Freeloader.com's Chief Executive, Harry Holmwood, flew to

computer game programme "Bits". The Q&A is conducted by Bits presenter
Aleks Krotoski.
The Freeloader feature will be broadcast nationwide in the United Kingdom via
Channel 4 Television on Tuesday May 2nd at 12.30 midnight.
The following is an exclusive interview Aleks conducted with Harry whilst in
Glasgow. Freeloader.com is revolutionary. It is the world's first website
that enables Internet users to download premium and original games from the
Web for free.
Also, if you click on the image of Aleks, it will open up into a full screen.

Stuck for something to do this weekend? Live in the Manchester area? The list
of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page.
This week's new films are : Scream 3, Galaxy Quest
and a review of
The Green Mile
is online too.
The saga continues... Final Fantasy VIII on PC CD-ROM...
At the forefront of a rising tide of violence brought on by Galbadia's war
declaration is a SeeD cadet named Squall Leonhart. Serious to a fault, Squall
has earned himself the reputation of being a lone wolf.
A chance encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly, however,
turns his universe upside down. Having thrived on discipline, Squall finds
Rinoa's carefree attitude fascinating. Yet there is no time to ponder these
thoughts, for the job of dealing with the sorceress behind Galbadia's
irrational hostility has fallen to SeeD and Squall.
MGM have completely run out of ideas it seems, not learning from the mistake
that Roberto Benigni made when he appeared in The Son of the Pink
Panther, but now they're hiring Kevin Spacey (American Beauty)
to star as a new Inspector Closeau, reprising Peter Sellers' role
for a new generation...
The script it reported to be 80% complete and it will be directed by
Ivan Reitman, director of
Ghostbusters,
later this year.
Bruce Willis drops into Central Perk...
Do they need the ratings that bad, or are they just big fans? Either way,
Die Hard star Bruce Willis is to make an appearance in a
forthcoming episode of Friends.
Following on from co-starring with Matthew Perry (Chandler),
The Whole Nine Yards, Bruce is tipped to have a romance with
Jennifer Anniston's character Rachel.
Don't call me "Beefy" says Mel C...
"Beefy Spice" and "Swell C". That's just two of the terms dished out to
recent No.1 star and singer with the Spice Girls, Melanie C, now that she's put on
the pounds whilst on holiday, taking a break from the rat race.
She recently hit back, "A lot of young people are screwed up about their
weight and end up getting wound up about whether they are too fat or too thin
when they really don't need to.
"This sort of thing can have a lasting effect on people, especially when they
are at an impressionable age"
She does look rather portly compared to what we're normally used to, but
it's her body and it fills a newspaper column (the story, that is :)
All hell lets loose in Urban Chaos on the Playstation...
Take control of Officer D'arci Stern, Eidos' new "Lara Croft", in a third-person
action game,
Urban Chaos,
which is online and out on Sony Playstation now.
Ainsley Harriot - who's laughing now...?
Just when you thought we'd got rid of extrovert and all-round show-off
Ainsley Harriot, he'll probably be coming back to Britain as his
American TV show has been axed after just one series.
And to add insult to injury, it was the creation of his show that sounded
the death knell for Sunset Beach, but there's no chance of that coming
back. No more fun Saturday afternoons catching up on the bad acting on Channel
5!
Attitude is everything in Young and Dangerous 2 on DVD...
Jordan Chan, Ekin Cheng, Gigi Lai and the gorgeous Chingmy Yau
star in the sequel,
Young and Dangerous 2,
which is online and out on DVD now.
Britannica DVD 2000 Competition winners...
Thanks to all those who entered the competition and the winners are
Sean Barnard and Kevin Auld.
Commisserations to all those who didn't win, but keep an eye out for future
competitions.
Forthcoming DVDs round-up...
Out now :
Ben Dover: English Porno Groupies is a title that does exactly what it
says on the tin, with 18-yr-old West Country lass Layla Jade, a gorgeous (it
says here) black stripper called Sophia, a classy blonde called Michelle,
a nubile little stunner named Emma and outrageous Essex wannabe sex slut
Donna, so not stereotyping that area of the country then...
Again with the usual extras of a photo gallery and a link to Ben's website,
expect a fullscreen presentation. Price: £19.99.
April 28th :
Street Angels sees Category III sex kitten Chingmy Yau returning
to the screen on fire, in a sexy and dangerous treat for fans of Hong Kong
action and eroticism. She is paired again with Simon Yam, her original
co-star from the ground-breaking erotic thriller, Naked Killer.
Presented in widescreen, there's no news on the widescreen ratio and I suspect,
coming from M.I.A., the English subtitles will be burnt into the (presumably)
non-anamorphic print, meaning I can't zoom the picture in to fill the screen,
whilst retaining the subtitles in view. Price: £19.99.
May 8th :
Romper Stomper is a hard-hitting portrayal of a gang of skinheads,
not from the old Weetabix ads but from Melbourne, engaged - in their own minds
at least - in a deadly battle for white supremacy.
Starring Russell Crowe (L.A. Confidential) and the alluring
Jacqueline McKenzie (Ben Elton's Stark, Deep Blue Sea), there's
no word on the digitally-remastered picture ratio - but I hope it's a
widescreen version this time - and it contains two trailers, and a stills
gallery. Price: £17.99.
May 15th :
Put back for a month from its original April 17th release date, the delay
being caused by a time consuming re-editing, Drive: Special Collector's
Edition is set to have stacks of extras as well as a painstakingly-recreated
ACS 5.1 digital mix from the original audio elements, courtest of sound
wizard Les Claypool at Magnitude 8-Post studios in L.A. Price: £19.99.
May 29th :
The Twilight Zone spooks its way onto DVD with four volumes to begin
with. 15 episodes span the discs, with three on the first and four on each
of the rest. Each contains extras including a biography and rare footage or
the creator and writer Rod Serling being interviewed in 1959 by Mike
Wallace, plus a featurette, "Inside the Twilight Zone", comprising
a history of the series, reviews of each episode, cast biogs and a season-by-season
commentary by Marc Scott Zicree, author of the Twilight Zone
Companion.
Aviva are planning to release all the discs month by month, so the whole
collection is available on DVD, priced at £15.99 per disc. What I can't
work out though, is how each disc contains seemingly random episodes, rather
than in chronological order. Anyone reading this know why?
DVD double bill Part 1: Jim Carrey *is* The Truman Show on DVD...
With this double bill of reviews - that's two for the price of none - I'm
really spoiling you...
It's the film he should've won an Oscar nomination for, but Jim Carrey
didn't get a light. Starring alongside Laura Linney and Ed Harris,
The Truman Show
is online and out on DVD now.
DVD double bill Part 2: Xena high-kicks her way onto DVD...
It's been a long time coming, but our prayers have finally been answered.
Albeit missing out the first season for the digital format, Lucy Lawless
and Renee O'Connor star in the first three episodes of season two.
A chance meeting with one of the most gorgeous women on Earth...?
Not in the slightest as I never got to meet her and I was at home at the time,
but the gorgeous Natalie Appleton from All Saints paid a visit to the
Little Chef where my fiancee is the manageress on Friday. Accompanied by her
actor boyfriend Jonny Lee Miller, star of films such as
Trainspotting,
Hackers
and
Plunkett and Macleane,
I asked if she could get her autograph. However, while Jonny signed it,
Natalie did not :_(
Maybe next time...
All about me...
It's taken me ages to get round to writing this, but for some info on me,
visit my
About Me page.
New DVDs and widescreen videos out this week
The new DVDs out this week are :
The Blade (19.99, MIA)
Bowfinger (19.99, Columbia)
Demons in my Head (19.99, Planet Distribution)
Evil Never Sleeps (19.99, Planet Distribution)
Hero (19.99 sub, VCI)
Last Tango In Paris (19.99, MGM)
A Letter From Death Row (19.99, Planet Distribution)
Moonstruck (19.99, MGM)
Neil Young: Silver and Gold (19.99, Warner Music Vision)
Actor Bill Dean, more recently better known as angry neighbour
Harry Cross in Brookside, has died at the age of 78.
After many years in the series, his last appearances were as himself and not
as himself - one came when he returned to the close as a confused Harry
thinking he still lived in the house now occupied by the Shadwicks and the
second was in their "Friday the 13th" video in 1998 as a man whose gnome was
run over, the appearance only being thrown in as a token gesture.
New films out this week...
American Psycho, The Story of Us, Cradle Will Rock, Kevin and Perry Go
Large and Snow Day are the new films out this week.
However, I didn't get a list of new films at Showcase Cinemas this week which
is why that page hasn't been updated.
Britannica DVD 2000 Easter promotion...
I'll announce the winners of the Britannica DVD 2000 competition shortly
(hmm, shall I make it tomorrow or Monday? ;), but from now until
Easter Monday, those of you who don't win can indulge in a £20 saving
as it will only cost you £49.99 to buy the package.
Are you ready to play with the Tweenies on DVD...?
Join Milo, Fizz, Bella and Jake for 23 songs and a number of other things
to make and do in
Tweenies: Ready to Play and Song Time,
which is online and out on DVD now.
Hang on to your diapies! It's The Rugrats Movie on DVD...
There's a new arrival in the Pickles household and Tommy is not best pleased
when baby brother Dil comes into his world. Join them and the rest of the
gang for the first feature-length film,
The Rugrats Movie,
which is online and out on DVD now.
Party down with the Buena Vista Social Club on DVD...
No, it's not a film about the company that releases DVDs, but a DVD from VCI
about the Cuban jazz club. Ry Cooder takes a personal tour through
the band's history in a film directed by Wim Wenders.
Robert Carlyle and Ricky Tomlinson are the Riff Raff on DVD...
The film follows the trials and tribulations of a team of builders who work on
a building site, centring on union man Larry (Ricky Tomlinson) and new
boy Steve (Robert Carlyle), as well as the latter's volatile love-life
after he hooks up with dowdy, aspiring singer Susan (Emer McCourt),
who's never had a fulfilling time in love herself and might not quite get
all she wants from her new man.
What on Earth? A new use for the Playstation 2...?
Japanese trade officials seem to have gone completely hatstand after it's
rumoured that Sony's Playstation 2 console, with its high quality of graphics,
is being exported for the sole purpose of guiding missiles such as tomahawks.
You now have a licence if you want to export more than one console.
And there was me thinking that people would only want to export one because
they want to play games such as Ridge Racer 5 and the forthcoming
Gran Turismo 2000 far sooner than their UK counterparts...
Explore North and South with Arctic & Antarctic on DVD...
Another in a line of interactive DVDs from Dorling Kindersely, Arctic &
Antarctic comes face to face with Albatross chicks and find out why Emperor
Penguin Dads do all the babysitting.
No, it's not Eric Hall, but it's Monster on DVD...
One of a line of interactive DVDs from Dorling Kindersely, Monster
takes a look at ferocious crocodiles, slippery pythons and hyenas with nothing
to laugh about.
Thanks to
The R2 Project for
the following information. I did receive a press release from the PR company
but couldn't decode it (shame on Windows! :)
Buena Vista have announce "The Sixth Sense" on DVD for May 8th. Priced at £19.99 the disk will feature nearly 30 minutes of extras including
(unique to the DVD release) the previously unseen extended ending. Also included are 3 other deleted
scenes, an interview with director M. Night Syamalan, a storyboard to film comparision and a Music/Sound design featurette.
Sadly the Press Release does not give any technical details except for a mention of "Crytal Clear Dolby Digital 5.1 Sound".
Warner announce "Deep Blue Sea" for June 6th...
Thanks to
The R2 Project for
the following information. The extras on this disc are as follows :
Commentary from Renny Harlin and Samuel L. Jackson
"When Sharks attack" documentary. Running over 15 Minutes the documentary
features footage from the making of the movie and information about the
special effects the movie used.
"Sharks of the Deep Blue Sea". Again running at around 15 minutes in
length this is a documentary on sharks.
5 Deleted scenes
Theatrical trailer
Stills Gallery with images from the movie
2 TV Commercials
DVD ROM with links to original "Deep Blue Sea Website"
Again there is no technical picture information but the sound is stated as being DD 5.1 and the disk will be RSDL DVD9.
The following is a list of titles from BBC for DVD following "Walking with Dinosaurs". It seems that there will be no more
titles until the Autumn (possibly as late as October/November) but the following are in the works:
"Blackadder 2"
"League of Gentlemen"
"Doctor Who" (Probably Robots of Death)
"Tweenies 2"
"Pride and Prejudice"
"Bravo 20"
"This Life"
"Only Fools and Horses"
"Teletubies"
All these titles are still very much "To Be Confirmed"
Fox are planning to release the following discs for June :
"Waking Ned" - 2.35:1 anamorphic plus trailer
"The Commitments" - 1.33:1 fullscreen version. Probably with trailer, featurette and music video "Treat Her Right"
"Thin Red Line" - 2.35:1 anamorphic plus Melanisian songs plus theatrical trailer. The R1 disk didn't have the trailer).
"The Full Monty" - 1.85:1 anamorphic plus trailer
"The Big Blue Version Longue" - 2.35:1 anamorphic plus trailer. French and English 2.0 soundtracks.
Beyond June the schedule is still very much up in the air. However look for these highlights:
October: "Independence Day" (two-disc set); "Planet of the Apes"
November "Braveheart"
November / December: "The Abyss" (two-disc set)
Remember all these titles and dates are T.B.C so could easily change. Of course there will be other titles
slotted into the schedule so if a title isn't mentioned here it doesn't mean it's been dropped from the schedule !
Well, sort of. This news page is officially one year old on Sunday, but I
turn 28 today! Only 12 years to go until life begins...
Michelle Pfeiffer hooks up with The Fabulous Baker Boys on DVD...
In a film that effortlessly takes in the styles of comedy, drama and music,
this is the first film in a long time to star both Bridges brothers Beau
and Jeff, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer in
The Fabulous Baker Boys,
which is online and out on DVD now.
Some Men Behaving Badly descend on DVD from next month...
Thanks to Alex Frith from LDA Communications for the Men Behaving Badly
press release as Series 1 and 6 are released on DVD on May 1st, with more to
come afterwards.
Shouting! Lager! Lager! Lager!
As 'brown is the new black' and 'staying in is the new going out', PT Video
have spent the past six months researching exactly what would make the perfect
night in for males aged between 16 - 34. Drum roll please for the findings!
'A warm spring evening wearing nothing but your pants, eating curry washed
down by a six pack of Stella, Kylie Minogue down by your feet and watching
Men behaving Badly on your 90" wide screen.' BLISS!
Those forward-thinking boys at PT worked on how they could improve this
scenario. Should they swap Kylie for Billie or perhaps trade in
the curry for a kebab? Decisions, Decisions! But after hours of in-depth
research they think they've cracked it with the release of the Sixth (and
last ever) Series of Men Behaving Badly on DVD, on 1st May 2000.
Partnering this is the First ever Series and there is no doubt the crystal
clear picture of DVD's will enhance viewing for tired, bleary and drunken eyes.
However, you may need to remove your beer goggles to fully enjoy all the added
extras on both DVD's.
DVD extras include special features such as an animated menu with hilarious
sound effects, scene selection for each episode and four interactive quizzes,
each with hysterical 'out-take' rewards on completion.
This is clearly the sitting down version of attempting to walk in a straight
line whilst drunk.
Series One contains behaving badly classic episodes such as 'Sex and Violence',
which is pretty self-explanatory, plus 'Animals' - I'll leave that one to you.
And Series Six sees the boys behaving well and settling down (yeah right!) in
'Wedding' and 'Watching TV'.
The remaining Men Behaving Badly legacy will be released individually on both
DVD and video in June & July 2000 but Series 6 will NOT be available on video
until Christmas 2000. So those buying into DVD have definitely jumped the
queue and avoided the Christmas rush!
Each series of Men Behaving Badly will be available on a single DVD or
VHS cassette - that's 3½ hours of complete laddish antics each time!!! PT
Videos explain why MBB has been put on DVD and single volume videos: "Hilarious
comedy combined with great value and the latest technology - what more could a
'Men Behaving Badly' fan want? Apart from Kylie, curries, lager".
For further information, review copies, competition prizes etc please contact
Alex or Jess who are behaving badly @ LDA Communications on
0181 959 1199 or email alexf@lisadenning.com
Also, if you click on any of these Men Behaving Badly images on your
right, it will open up into a full screen.

It's gory, it's horrific, it's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on Sony Playstation...
The third in the long-running series is set inbetween the first two and
again stars Jill Valentine, but she and her new colleague Carlos
Oliviera are having more than a few problems with Nemesis.
Yes, you knew the T-virus and the G-virus would never go away and they're
back just as powerful in
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis,
which is online and out on Sony Playstation now.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow as I'll have a review of its House of the Dead-style

Peter Jones, the "Voice of the Book" dies at 79...
The actor, comedian and TV scriptwriter Peter Jones has died at the age
of 79.
He was known for his quirky comments as a panelist on the Radio 4 show,
Just a Minute, appearing in Fanny By Gaslight (1944), The Rag

BBFC go to Court - Verdict Due Thursday 13th
Thanks to
DVD Debate for
the following information :
"The BBFC launched a new court last week to stop the sale of 7 explicit
Hardcore films in licensed sex shops in the UK.
Last year the Video Appeals Committee overturned the BBFC's refusal to give a
special R18 certificate to seven `hardcore' videos produced by two firms,
Sheptonhurst, and Prime Time. The BBFC argue that the Video Appeals
Committee wrongly interpreted the law and had failed to take into account the
risk of real and significant harm to children.
The Lawyer representing the two companies argued the Video Appeals
Committee had acted legally and that the risk of their being seen and causing
harm to children was insignificant. They argued that the case had to be
considered within the Modern World where any reasonably intelligent 11-year-old
knew how to obtain much worse graphic material from the Internet. The Lawyer
also argued that the BBFC's own Child Psychiatrist had seen only 6 children in
19 years affected by Pornography. The Judge present is expected to defer a
decision to Thursday 13th April.
If the decision goes against the BBFC it will undoubtedly allow further similar
material to be sold."
Fox go DVD Rental Window in UK...
Thanks to
DVD Debate for
the following information :
"Just when it seemed like they were putting the consumer first, 20th Century Fox
via the Fox/Pathe label are to test a DVD Rental Window on their two big titles,
Fight Club and Anna & The King. We heard that the studio is keen
to move to a DVD rental window for all big titles. This was originally indicated
in some R4 news a few months back. Now Fox has started the move in the UK.
This means that both titles will appear on DVD for rental as Movie only editions
(without extras) prior to a proper retail sell through. Strangely, both titles
will also ship some weeks AFTER their VHS rental counterparts. This is likely
to occur with the titles released in July.
Thereafter, Fox will do day & date VHS rental and DVD rental on the DiCaprio
movie The Beach in August. Those of you thinking you'll just buy a copy
should note the price for dealer rental is pegged at £55. (DVDfever Dom: 'The
same used as some new rental videos now!')
Following these three titles, Fox will begin to look at regular DVD releases
in this way. Special Editions for sell-thru will be available later in the year.
It is not known at this time what the length of the rental window will be.
Given that the USA R1 market cannot, as yet, sustain a DVD rental window and
that major studios other than Fox are opposed to the window, it comes as a
surprise to hear that the fledgling UK and Australian Marketplaces are being
tested. It's even more surprising when you consider that both titles will be
available as Special Editions in the USA for sale in June.
Truly a sad day for R2 DVD..."

Angelina Jolie to play Lara in Tomb Raider Movie...
Academy Award®-winning actress Angelina Jolie has been cast for the
coveted starring role in Paramount Pictures' highly anticipated ‘Tomb Raider’,
it was announced today by John Goldwyn, President of Paramount Motion Pictures.
Directed by Simon West (‘The General's Daughter’, ‘Con Air’), the
live-action feature film is inspired by the most popular interactive video
character in history - Lara Croft. With brains to match her beauty, Lara is
the computer-generated heroine of Eidos Interactive's phenomenally successful ‘Tomb
Raider’ game series.
The Lawrence Gordon production is presently scheduled to commence principal
photography this summer at Pinewood Studios. Paramount Pictures is part of the
entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. Producers are confirmed as Lawrence Gordon,
Lloyd Levin and Colin Wilson. Charles Cornwall, Eidos' Chief
Executive Officer, is Executive Producer, with Bobby Klein as Co-producer.
Screenplay is by Patrick Massett &
John Zinman.
Angelina Jolie was recently awarded an Oscar® for Best Supporting Actress in ‘Girl,
Interrupted’. Her performance in the critically acclaimed film also brought
Jolie her third Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She earned
her first Golden Globe Award for TNT's ‘George Wallace’ and her second for
HBO's ‘Gia’. Both roles brought her Emmy Award nominations.
Prior to ‘Girl, Interrupted’, Jolie co-starred in ‘The Bone Collector’, ‘Pushing
Tin’ and ‘Playing by Heart’ - for which she was awarded the Breakthrough
Performance Award by the National Board of Review. Jolie also starred
in ‘Foxfire’,
‘Hackers’ and Hallmark
Hall of Fame's ‘True Women’. Her upcoming films include ‘Gone in Sixty
Seconds’ with Nicolas Cage, and ‘Dancing in the Dark’ with Antonio Banderas.
Assertive, resourceful and independent, Lara is the first virtual celebrity
to hold her own in a world of flesh and blood, non-virtual stars. She has
appeared on over 200 magazine covers around the globe; Time magazine featured
her in a major story in December 1999; and she has graced the pages of Newsweek,
Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly's ‘It’ issue (which feted the 100 most
creative people in entertainment).
In addition, Details magazine heralded Lara as one of the ‘Sexiest Women of
the Year’ (the only virtual celebrity so chosen), and The London Times recently
devoted a special 16-page supplement to her. Time Digital included Lara on a
list of the 50 cyber-elite in America, ranking her among Bill Gates, Andy
Grove, Steve Jobs and George Lucas.
Lara has also appeared in television advertising campaigns across the US,
Europe and Asia; she is the subject of more than 1,000 internet fan sites -
each created independently of Eidos - and her merchandise includes action
figures, comic books and a clothing range. In all, total game sales and
related merchandise has generated $500 million. Lara’s success has even
inspired the world-famous Elite Modelling Agency to devote an entire division
to developing virtual models; other companies are now following suit.

Finally - the real Best CD in the world ever...!
And why is it the best? Because you choose the tracks yourself. Top Shop and Top

shortly, but the idea is that you get to pick what you want to listen to,
pay at the till and your custom-made CD pops out.
I doubt every single track ever made will be available initially because
of rights issues, but it could spell the death knell for "Now That's What
I Call Another Dire Pop Compilation"...

Never one to keep it under his hat, unlike The Flumps, Elton John
stepped up to accept an award in New York from the Gay and Lesbian
Discrimination (G.L.A.A.D.) which aims to fight discrimination against gays
and lesbians.
However, while on stage he launched a vitriolic attack on the Daily Mail
newspaper, calling it a "disgusting rag that hates everybody - gays, blacks",
etc. but added "I still buy it because I want to see what the bastards are saying!"
The Daily Mail were unsurprisingly unavailable for comment...
"Eternal"ly sacked!...
After losing band members to solo careers, Louise and Kelle Bryan,

Have a good WAP! - Get the Internet on your mobile phone...
WAP's IT ALL ABOUT...?
Mass market Mobile Internet phones available from today
Mobile Internet phones go mass market this week, as BT Cellnet rolls out the
UK's first pre-pay Mobile Internet phone. This new WAP (Wireless Application
Protocol) handset goes on sale nationwide from Monday 3rd April and is also
available from
BT Cellnet
and
Genie Internet's
Online Stores, retailing at £99.99. This latest initiative from BT
Cellnet-the mobile Internet market leader- makes the internet available to a
much wider audience via mobiles and all for just 10p per minute.
WAP is essentially the technology that enables mobile phones to "talk" to
the internet, delivering the internet directly to your handset. Along with
the other Mobile Internet phones available on BT Cellnet's market-leading
post-pay tariffs - the Nokia 7110, the Motorola P7389 and from today, the
Motorola T2288 - the pre-pay option based on the Mitsubishi Trium Geo
handset will give customers access to an ever-widening range of Internet
services. These currently include e-mail, news to their phones as it
happens, entertainment and up-to-the-minute gossip from the world of
showbiz, sports, shares, travel and TV listings - all straight from Genie
Internet (www.genie.co.uk ), the UK's leading
Mobile Internet Service Provider. Customers can access any WAP-enabled site
in the world for information delivered direct to their Mobile Internet
phones.
Peter Erskine, managing director, BT Cellnet, said: "Today's announcement
shows that BT Cellnet is determined to put the Internet in everybody's
pocket at an affordable price.
He added: "We expect that within 18 months sales of nearly all new mobile
phones, will be Internet-enabled . It is expected by 2003 that more people
could be accessing the web from mobile devices than from PCs. In effect, the
mobile phone as we know it has had its day!"
WAP - Now it stands for Wonderfully Accessible Pricing!
To reflect the Mobile Internet age, BT Cellnet has restructured its calling
plans. From today, customers will be able to choose between Mobile Internet
and voice-only post and pre-pay calling plans, designed to offer customers
more flexibility and choice. For the next three months, BT Cellnet pre and
post pay Internet phone customers will benefit from double the number of
inclusive minutes each month.
The launch of the BT Cellnet Pre-Pay Internet Phone coincides with a three
month, £20million above-the-line advertising campaign which breaks today
and includes TV, radio and billboard advertising, in addition to the current
Mobile Internet print and poster campaign. This is the first time that a UK
mobile operator has run a TV advertising campaign solely focusing on the
Mobile Internet.
So how might people use the new pre-pay BT Cellnet Internet Phone?
A typical football fan might use it like this:
Lost on her way to an away game? Her trusty mobile Internet Phone
will be able to give a helping hand with directions from Mapquest.com. When
she gets there, why wait for the half time scores to see how the rest of the
UK's football teams are doing? She gets the latest scores delivered to her
handset from Football365, so she doesn't miss what's happening around the
UK. Hungry after the match - soon she'll be able to just key in her postcode
and her handset will find her a local restaurant. And if she's got no cash
with her, her BT Cellnet Internet Phone will also tell her where to find her
nearest cashpoint with its Visa ATM Locator.
On the other hand her boyfriend, who detests football, uses his BT Cellnet
Internet Phone differently!
He's busy trying to find a flat to rent and has information on
what's available sent direct to his handset straight from Loot.com. After a
hard days flat- hunting, he uses his BT Cellnet Internet Phone to find out
what's on at his local cinema and on the train home begins looking at
up-to-the-minute information on his mobile from lastminute.com to plan a
weekend away.
Meanwhile, his mother has altogether different uses for her Mobile Internet
Phone:
In the morning, she looks up the weather forecast to let her know
whether to take her raincoat to work. On her way to a meeting she checks her
share prices, has a look at the main news headlines, before promptly selling
some shares! After her meeting, she's able to check her emails which are
sent direct to her mobile phone and emails her team back at the office to
let them all know when she is due to return. On her way back, she uses the
visa ATM locator to find the nearest cash point to pick up some cash, and
buys a train ticket for her journey the next day.
Columbia's proposed DVD line-up for July, August and September...

now you can fit over 83,000 articles and five hours of footage on a single
disc with
Britannica DVD 2000,
which is online and out on DVD now.
Star Wars is out today on video but a certain man couldn't be arsed to put it

Queer As Folk 2: DVD confirmed for April 10th...
Allegedly this is the last chance we'll ever see the 'gorgeous guys' together.
Queer as Folk 2 was broadcast on Channel 4 in February, but the final
two-parter gets a DVD release on April 10th, complete with 24 minutes of
previously unseen footage and exclusive material and the DVD also contains
46 minutes of behind the scenes features and added value extras in the form
of "What The Folk?".
Unique to the DVD is a special music video style feature of the three leads,
biographies of the actors and crew, a photo gallery and a selection of
Channel 4's trailers for the programme.
Will Vince, Stuart and Nathan get it right or just bugger
everything up ? :)
