Take an adventure beyond all others: In The Shadow of the Moon on DVD...
Released today:
Documentaries come and go and most are about topics covered numerous times
before. Well, the Apollo moon landings has certainly been brought up quite
often over the years, but never before have so many recollections from the
men who went up there, including Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell, or so much archive
footage not seen before, been put together quite like this.
It's almost like hearing the wondrous stories for the first time...
13 new jazzy tunes, most of which are covers, on her 8th album today
and, as
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
confirms, as usual there are far more hits and misses here.
We're a bit behind getting some new uploads put online, but one perfect moment
came with last Friday's Today programme on Radio 4 when Charlotte Green read
out a news item about the earliest recorded piece of sound, and then had to
lead on to an obituary...
12 tracks, very little of which is worth a listen, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
and it's likened to cold and contrived muzak that's "best left for space movies".
Bruce Willis races against time in 16 Blocks on DVD...
It took me a little while to get round to seeing this film but, coming from
the director of the Lethal Weapon films - but clearly leaning on the times
when they used to be good, here comes a tale where Bruce Willis plays a worn-out,
alcoholic cop who has just clocked off shift, but his boss has one last job
for him.
He's got to take a prisoner 16 blocks across town to testify in court against
some bad cops and he's got less than 2 hours to do it. Sounds simple, doesn't
it? Well, if it was, then they wouldn't have made a film about it, would they?
Frank Baijens' debut CD doesn't make him feel the Odd Man Out...
And that's because, as confirmed by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
he's got some famous friends attesting to his talents, such as Macca, Jan
Akkerman (Focus) and Bob Wester (Fleetwood Mac), the latter two of which are
providing musical support on this very album. A great treat indeed and a great
start to a new career.
Homer Simpson branches out onto the big screen, but on DVD...
Yes, it was the event that had been promised for several years and it eventually
turned up last summer in the form of The Simpsons Movie, but by then
it was several years past its best and when I saw it on DVD recently this was
accurately confirmed for me.
Find out why it was a great disappointment below, and not a patch on the
earlier episodes.
Levi Stubbs' Tears, Between the Wars, Sexuality... some of Billy Bragg's
great tracks over the years, but for this latest album,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
tells us that as Bragg approaches the age of 50, he's mellowing, and it's a
great shame.
Their new album, Funplex, is out today, but a couple of weeks ago they
also put out a single of the same name, and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
is very pleased to see their return.
Out of a myriad of new uploads, one of my favourites was one of a recent
interview and cooking segment with James Corden, actor and co-writer of Gavin &
Stacey, on Something For The Weekend.
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, Something For The Weekend,
GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the past week,
such as interviews with The Enemy, Juliet Stevenson & Toby Jones, Annie
Lennox, David Harewood, Robert Bathhurst, Ruth Jones & James Corden (on Culture Show),
Sugababes, plus loads of amusing bloopers and performances from The Sugababes,
Newton Faulkner and Natasha Bedingfield.
You can never go wrong with a Santana compilation and this 18-track bonanza
would be right up anyone's street, with classic tracks including Samba
Pa Ti, Smooth and Black Magic Woman.
As
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
confirms, there's a good mix here to keep everybody happy.
Peter Cincotti on CD: A potential rival to Harry Connick Jr...
His third album and only at the age of 24,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
reckons this man is better than Buble and could possibly be a match for Harry
Connick Jr, given time.
Josh Ritter takes a trip through the ages on CD...
Following up his 2006 release, Animal Years,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
calls this CD "arguably his best record so far" and with 14 tracks on this
album there's clearly plenty to enjoy.
The release dates for singles go up until late May
with albums also until May 2008.
A Swedish master in Jens Lekman on CD...
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
proclaims this as the best album of 2007 and tgat if you put it in your CD
player you'll get blown away, as "21st Century 'pure-pop' never sounded so
wonderful".
Another ride of your life comes in Burnout Paradise on the Xbox 360...
Back in late 2005, Burnout Revenge on the Xbox was an absolute triumph
with graphics and sound to die for and elements like the Crash Mode to play
over and over until you perfected them. Now it's time for the follow-up,
Burnout Paradise, where there's still lots to enjoy but there's a few
key elements missing...
Very recently, the new pop sensation Duffy appeared live on stage in Wrexham,
and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
was there to not only witness the gig but got to chat to the lovely lady as
well.
This review also contains links to her recent appearances on GMTV and The
Culture Show, having got to No.1.
Out of a myriad of new uploads, one of my favourites was one of a recent
clip from Breakfast where Sian and Bill were letting us know that there's
live news on News 24 from 8.30am... and they were looking very chummy...
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, Something For The Weekend,
GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the
past week, such as interviews with Phil Davis, Craig David, Rob Brydon,
Leona Lewis, David Walliams & James Cracknell, David 'Haymaker' Haye,
Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova, Wet Wet Wet, KT Tunstall, Buster the 101-year-old
marathon runner, Robert Webb, Emma Pierson, Sammy Winward & Georgina Slowe
from Emmerdale, Katie Melua, Kathleen Turner, Martin Clunes, Andy Serkis,
John McCrirrick & The Booby, Freema Agyeman, Sophie Grigson, Alan Dale,
Steven Berkoff, Hugh Grant, Clive Anderson, Jon Culshaw, Elizabeth McGovern &
Tom Hollander, Damian Lewis, plus a mishap for Julia Bradbury on Watchdog,
Susanna's side-split dress at the Oscars, Peter Sissons being called "John" on
News 24, Carol Kirkwood sneezing and Annabelle Apsion doing a 'boob dance' on
The Wright Stuff.
The man behind the Eagles releases a compilation on CD...
As confirmed by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
JD Souther wrote many of the Eagles biggest hits including Best Of My Love,
Heartache Tonight and New Kid in Town, so you know you're onto a
winner from the start....
Jason Isbell: Strange album title but an excellent CD...
That's the conclusion from
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
for Sirens of the Ditch, an 11-track work of art that makes a dazzling
impact and features a blend of Blues, Country and Soul.
The release dates for singles go up until early May
with albums also until May 2008.
James Yorkston roars to the converted on CD...
Having seen him live a few years ago,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
was looking forward to this man's most recent album, but it didn't turn out
to be one that was likely to draw a new audience and shout 'hit' from any track.
A fantasy world awaits in The Spiderwick Chronicles on Xbox 360...
The Spiderwick Chronicles is a new fantasy feature film for children and is out
in UK cinemas next Friday, just in time for Easter. Take control of all three
children in the movie and find out just what's going on with the magical wood
full of bizarre creatures at the bottom of the garden...
British music legend Joe Brown has notched up 50 years in the business and
this latest compilation celebrates his career.
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
certainly recommends it.
The main update for this will come tomorrow as Youtube's playing up as I type
and won't update properly when I upload stuff. All being well, the main vid
will be about Paula Radcliffe...
He's only 23, but according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
he's already making serious waves on the music scene and this debut proves he's
a jack of all trades and a master of just about all of them too.
Erasure's Light at the End of the World goes out on CD...
Catching up on one of last year's releases, a new Erasure album always used
to be an event back in the '80s, but 20 years on things have changed greatly
and this 10-track album really doesn't quite cut the mustard, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts.
Will they ever return to their former glory?
Campaigning for an end to rip off food in cinemas on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
Cinemas have declared that you're not allowed to bring your own food in,
starting with Cineworld in Stockport - not that I've been there in a long time
as some of the screens are tiny - but thankfully, Adam Glennon is
protesting against this and here he is on GMTV talking about it.
SOCOM: US Tactical Strike: Strategic action has never been more fun on the Sony PSP...
Normally, this kind of game is not my style at all - telling soldiers where to
go by pointing and clicking all over the place, but once I set about playing
this release I was gripped by it. Okay, so the men you're trying to control
are a bit thick at times, but I just can't stop playing it!
According to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
Devonte Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion, has taken a while to find what
makes himself tick successfully and this 12-track album has been worth the
wait.
Out of a myriad of new uploads, one of my favourites was one of a recent
series of promos for digital TV, but not the annoying ones telling us to
'switchover' by a woman with a pompous voice, but an amusing one with Penny
Smith and Richard Arnold.
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, Something For The Weekend,
GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the
past week, such as interviews with Myleene Klass, Linda Lusardi, Roland Rat,
Fish & Whispering Bob Harris, Frank Black busking, Duffy (on two shows),
Ben Miller & Lucy Brown, Dean Andrews from Ashes To Ashes, Dexter Fletcher,
Freema Agyeman, George Galloway on C4 news, David Walliams & James Cracknell,
Eddie Izzard on the Politics Show and Adam Glennon, a man from Stockport
who's taking the cinemas to task over their ridiculously high prices for the
food they stock.
There's also a weird clip of a woman on The Wright Stuff who has spent over
five grand on her cat's acne!
