M.Ward releases a new CD single...
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
brings to you a review of a new CD single from M.Ward who released his
album Post War last year. This title is available on CD and
is also available to download.
Chronos is a 42-minute feature and the directorial debut of Ron
Fricke who uses time-lapse photography in seven movements, taking in
locations such as the Grand Canyon, Stonehenge, the Sphinx and castles
of England, France and Spain all to the bizarre musical creations of
Michael Stearns and his 'Beam' instrument.
Okay, so you can't watch a CD, but you know what I mean. This is a lady
who's heartily recommended by both
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
and singer-songwriter extraordinaire Simon Climie. You can find out why
in the review, but given how many records Katie Melua and Norah Jones have
sold, for Elly to declare that she's light years ahead of them, this is
certainly an unmissable album.
And just a quick addition from
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
before we let him rest for today, this band have an eponymous album out,
but if you purchase the single you'll get this track in studio, live and
demo formats.
John Simm talks about Life on Mars on the DVDfever YouTube channel...
Uploaded online recently are three snippets about Life on Mars taken
from BBC1's North West Tonight, the most recent of which cover interviews
with John Simm (right) and Philip Glenister, as well as looking at the
set design and period features of the '70s in segments filmed for both series
1 and series 2.
Also added is another carefully spliced together piece of entertainment
from last Wednesday's Never Mind the Buzzcocks, as the aftermath
of Preston's departure could still be felt and Simon tried his best not to
put a foot wrong, even if the contestants were testing his patience. He also
tried to play things posh with E4 Skins star Nick Hoult.
There's also another a few minutes of delight with psychologist Linda
Papadopolous on the Breakfast sofa and a segment from a recent Charlie
Brooker's Screenwipe episode, harking back to the old days of the BBC's
Micro Live programmes with Consolevania's creators, one of whom drops a
mention to the not-for-the-faint-hearted adult movie star Belladonna who,
when I mentioned this clip to her via her Myspace blog, she made me her
'Friend of the Day'!

Are RPG fans WOW'd by The Burning Crusade on the PC...?
Today we introduce a new contributor to the site, so step forward
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Gaz Williams,
a massive fan of online RPG games including the massively popular World
of Warcraft and now an expansion pack has been released, but does it
stand up as a great addition or just more of the same?
Murder most foul from a serial killer in Antibodies on DVD...
When a serial killer, whose victims include children, is eventually caught,
that's only half the story as there's another child's death to be solved
and for some reason the murderer will only talk this through with one
particular cop from a remote village in an engaging and uncompromising
German thriller.
Steve Hillage re-releases some classic albums on CD...
Well, two great albums, a mediocre one and one that's not much cop at all,
according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
but it's a quartet of prog-rock from the '70s that will have many fans
chomping at the bit to buy them.
Preston walks out on Buzzcocks on the DVDfever YouTube channel...
Uploaded online recently is five minutes of classic TV in segments from
last Wednesday's Never Mind the Buzzcocks, in which smug lead singer
with The Ordinary Boys, Preston, would laugh at jokes made about other panel
guests but when it came time for him to be laughed at he couldn't take the
heat and walked off set in a huff.
Following last week's upload of Donny Tourette's rant in a video clip on
Buzzcocks, I had a massive response to this one as within a single day over
28,000 people had viewed it since it went online that evening!
Also added in the week are Breakfast interviews with comedian and Neighbour
star Mark Little, classic clips from Room 101 of Owen Paul on Pebble
Mill in 1986 when he forgot to sing and also Wordy's "Magic E" song, plus
an interview with Donny Tourette and Towers of London on Manchester-based
Channel M's Citylife show.

No, this double CD, brought to you by

won't be asking you to shake hands in a funny way while lifting one trouser
leg up, as the name refers to two remix DJs from Brighton who have spun
their magic across 28 tracks.
New DVDs and games out now and soon: Five of the best from Tartan on DVD...
First in this round-up this week is Brothers of the Head (£19.99), which is out now. Set in
the mid-1970s just before the punk movement swept the British Isles, this film tells the story of shadowy
cultural icons Tom and Barry Howes, conjoined twins from an isolated headland on the east coast of England.
Plucked from the safety of their isolation, they find themselves being groomed by one of rock's leading
impresarios to become part of the burgeoning punk rock scene, soon to take the world by storm.
Then try a three-helping set of films by Pier Paolo Pasolini, considered one of the most important filmmakers
ever (£39.99), which is released on February 26th. Italian by birth, he made a name for himself as perhaps
the primary revolutionary voice in postwar Italian cinema, employing similar methods to Truffaut and Godard.
Choosing subjects among the working class and those at the far southern reaches of the social scale, Pasolini
catalogued society's more revolutionary quarters such as Marxists and the homosexual community 'Accatone'
(1964) is Pasolini's film about street life and prostitution which employs a near-documentary style and
non-professional actors. Accattone (Franco Citti) is a pimp who falls in love and tries to go straight, only
to give up and return to the streets to find his girls working for someone else.
'Love Meetings' (1965) is a revolutionary documentary in which Pasolini takes to the streets with camera and
mic, asking Italians the most intimate questions about sex; does virginity matter? Are women men's equals?
What do they think of homosexuals? This in a stanchly Catholic country, indeed the cradle of Catholicism,
raises a whole set of issues by itself about forthrightness but the answers paint a picture of a series of
changing attitudes between areas and social classes.
Ro.Go.Pa.G (1962) contains four films by four directors: in Roberto Rossellini's 'Illibatezza' (Chastity),
an Italian air hostess in Bangkok is pursued by an American businessman; in Pier Pasolini's 'La Ricotta',
notions of religion and belief are explored as a biblical blockbuster is being filmed outside Rome;
Jean-Luc Godard's 'Il Nuovo Mondo' (The New World) is a look at a post-nuclear explosion future; and Ugo
Gregoretti's 'Il Pollo Ruspante' (The Free-Range Chicken) is a satire on modern living. Pasolini's
contribution earned him a suspended prison sentence for blasphemy.

Continuing the Tartan releases on DVD...
To make up the other three titles in this round-up we start off with another 'Three' as in Trois
Hommes et un Couffin (26th Feb, £19.99). Three clueless and hedonistic bachelors are forced to
trade dames for diapers when an infant is left on their doorstep. However, what they don't know is that
this "package" is harbouring a little extra when drug dealers come looking for their narcotics unwittingly
stashed in the baby's cradle!
The Great Ecstacy of Robert Carmichael (26th Feb, £19.99) is the debut feature from director
Thomas Clay, offering an uncompromising insight into bored and disaffected youth in modern Britain. Robert
(Dan Spencer) is a gifted young musician, but his social awkwardness puts him at odds with those around him
at school and at home. He is naturally attracted to the 'wrong crowd', led by Larry (Danny Dyer), and is
drawn into a world of drugs and deviancy that explodes in a shocking act of sexual violence. The film was
screened at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
Finally, H6 - Diary Of A Serial Killer (out now, £19.99), is a stylish Spanish horror about
a maniac 'purifying' the unworthy in a dimly-lit former brothel. Antonio Frau has just served 25 years
in prison for killing his girlfriend in the heat of a dispute and, as it quickly becomes plain, he's a
rather poor advert for rehabilitation. While inside, Antonio has inherited The Pension Paraiso - a decrepit
brothel - from a dead relative which he puts to good use as his own comfortable domicile - even buying a
new freezer. On an Internet dating service, he meets and marries a lovely woman and is soon living the
straight life, renovating the bordello to its former muted glory. However, the formerly felonious hotelier,
it appears, is also running a little sideline in redemption in room H6.. Pretty soon the neighbourhood is
a rather uncomfortable place for the pimps, racketeers and doxies that walk its streets.

Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest

The new films out include: Hot Fuzz, Because I Said So and
9th Company.
The name of the band and the album is the nomadic tribe word for the mental

DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
describes, it's a combination of peaceful, entrancing and deeply
spiritual music.

entertainment and enjoyment.
Making No.1 last week, Norah Jones took the title as the 800th album
to hit the top slot in the charts, but does her style of easy-listening music
still cut the mustard?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
takes a listen and declares that it's lovingly, and extremely, well-crafted.
Uploaded online recently is clip from Never Mind the Buzzcocks, shown
last Wednesday, in which pretend punk and all-round pillock, Donny Tourette,
was royally shown up by presenting a clip of a spoof rockumentary he made with
his band in which he claimed he could "dick on the Sex Pistols".
I've never had so much of a response to a Youtube clip before, in which over
2000 people have viewed it since it went online that evening!
Also added in the week are Breakfast interviews with Sylvester McCoy, Ricky
Gervais, Paul Weller, Dirk Benedict, Patrick Baladi, Leslie Phillips, a
Culture Show interview with Christopher Guest, a clip from The Wright Stuff
about how men like being single - which put Carol Thatcher's nose out of
joint, a piece from Breakfast about long-running Grandstand coming
to an end and another trailer for Primeval.

Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler, Andrei Arlovski vs. Cabbage Correira, Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz,

WWE and WCW for national supremacy, its champion on par with their promotions.

Jesse Ventura, and so many more. It's the promotion where the Immortal Hulk Hogan first rose

Kate Beckinsale returns as death-dealer Selene in Underworld: Evolution on DVD...
The first Underworld film didn't do a great deal for me as there
was too much pontificating between the lead characters in the extended version,
so have they learned this time round to concentrate more on the action and
scale down all the chit-chat to what is absolutely necessary?
Well, apart from jetting around the world as an international popstar,
Australia has always been her home but this return to her Showgirl
tour marks a return for Kylie following her long, hard batte against
cancer and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
is glad she's bouncing back in inimitable fashion.
Uploaded online recently is clip from The Wright Stuff where daughter of
Maggie, Carol Thatcher was asked how much she'd have to take in order to
give up sex forever. comedian Scott Capurro chipped in and put the mouthy cow in

and confirms that they certainly know how to kick up a storm...
PRESS RELEASE: Born To Rock: The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar at Harrods...
Thanks to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
for the following two press releases, starting with:
"Born To Rock: The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar", Europe's biggest
guitar exhibition, will open at Harrods on 2nd February to 3rd March 2007.
Hailed as the biggest guitar exhibition in Europe (featuring over 150
guitars), the vast collection will include "The Frying Pan" - the world's
first electric guitar (circa 1931).
The centre piece and inspiration for this event is the "RockCoutureT"
collection: over 50 stunning and unique electric guitars, personally
customised by the biggest names in fashion, music and design, including
Bono, Nick Rhodes, Patrick Cox, Sir Peter Blake, Lord Richard Rogers, David
LaChapelle, Jennifer Lopez, Graham Coxon, Diane Von Furstenberg, Theo
Fennell and many more.
Following the exhibition the RockCouture guitars will be auctioned for
charities nominated by participating creators.
Also on show will be many rare and extremely valuable guitars, both vintage
and modern, and offers visitors a chance to get up close to guitars normally
only seen in hands of rock stars. "Born To Rock" gathers into one place
priceless guitars played by the likes of Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Noel
Gallagher, The Edge, The Velvet Underground, John Lee Hooker, Ted Nugent,
Marc Bolan, Neil Young, Eddie Cochrane, and blues legend Rory Gallagher.
