"A cacophony of American OTT unforgettable rock-riffs" is how
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
refers to this album from the band Yellowcard, but is easily understandable
when he likens them to Green Day, who I think are one of the world's greatest
examples of "The Emperor's New Clothes". Are there any redeeming features on
the album?
The new music charts will be online soon.... promise.
Legendary horror film director George A. Romero could've opted for the easy
route and turned out a bunch of zombies walking about with no purpose, but
by adding a simple storyline it's proved to be a fantastic 90 minutes of
entertainment.
A second trip down to the Underworld at the cinema...
The first film did rather suck a bit, but can the sequel improve? It sometimes
happens, such as the X-Men sequel which to me was far better than the original.
Find out what
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
makes of the second outing for Kate Beckinsale in her tight rubber
suit.
The Verve, the Verve, all we ever hear about is the Verve, a band he left
behind some years ago, so how is his solo career coming about with his third
album?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts

of rock". Sadly, he passed away in 2002, but his tale is a story you must
hear.

Bubble, by Steven Soderbergh - a new film with a unique distribution method...
Director Steven Soderbergh's latest movie, Bubble, is a film
about the residents of a small town in Ohio who puzzle out the details of a
murder which took place at the local toy factory. It stars no professional
actors, but while that's a rarity, it's not what sets this release apart from
any other.
Yes, the difference is in how it's being distributed. Normally, films are
released in the cinema first and then to DVD approximately six months later,
although even that's been shortened drastically in the last couple of years
as the UK DVD release of
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
was a mere four months after its outing on the big screen, and the US DVD
of Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty, cut that down to just three months.
So, how long will fans of Bubble have to wait? No time at all. Well,
technically 4 days but that's because it's out in the cinema in the US this
Friday, January 27th, and then it hits the stores on DVD next Tuesday, but
viewers of the high-definition pay-TV network, HDNet, will see it from this
Friday too.
Of course, cinemas are up in arms about this because movie goers won't have
to travel to their place of business and spend of a small fortune on salty,
overpriced popcorn. They can just pay around $25 (approx £13) for a
DVD to keep at home and watch as many times as they like. And with a pedigree
like Soderbergh's, director of sex lies and videotape, Erin Brockovich,
The Limey and the Ocean's Eleven/Twelve movies, this could be many
times indeed.
So, is this the future of all films? It'd certainly help to kill off the piracy
market if consumers could buy a top-quality release on near-enough day one
without having to trudge down to a car boot sale for a CDR of a poor-quality
version or download the same tripe for nothing, and if it's a film worth
having them some are worth shelling out for when offered at the right price
like this one or when you get a nice boxset as they can look as good as those
they used to do for laserdiscs. Even the price of the boxsets are coming down
when sales come round. Around Xmas I bought the 12-disc extended Lord of the Rings
trilogy boxset for about £27 from Amazon!
And the take-off in legally download mp3 tracks could lead the way forward for
legal downloads of films as broadband connections get ever faster. As an aside,
given the way society's much more of a "now" society today, I can't remember the
last time anything was advertised as saying to "allow 28 days for delivery" :-)

If you liked the JCB Song, will you like the full album? Nizlopi on CD...
They would've had the Xmas No.1 had it been for a no-name bloke who sang a
song that no-one cared about after the X-Factor was over, but after the JCB
Song, is the rest of the album worth a listen?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
starts it up.
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
is head over heels into this debut album from a singer who's gone solo
since making a previous debut album (is that possible?) which was with
Rilo Kiley. What is it about her that makes her a great listen?
The release dates for singles go up until March
with albums also until April 2006.

The Mitchell And Webb Situation (£16.99, Eureka Video) is out on February 20th

David Mitchell and Robert Webb's riotous comedy show, The Mitchell and Webb Situation, gushes forth an
hilarious stream of surreal and quirkily inventive sketches self-penned by the talented duo. Originally

decide to open their own butcher shop.
While grappling with a competitive market and an evil ex-boss, an accidental death occurs. One hasty
decision leads to another and soon the business is regularly serving up "speciality" meat. But it’s not
long before the growing number of missing persons begins to draw the town’s attention…
Extras include: The Making of Green Butchers. Meat is Murder: Make-up and prosthetics feature featurette.
Danish Theatrical Trailer. USA Trailer.
Due South Series 1 (£59.99, Network) is out on January 30th.
When Sergeant Bob Fraser is found murdered in the icy wasteland of the Northern Territories in the snow,
the grief amongst members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is palpable. He was a first class officer,
the last of a breed.
Grieving for the aloof father he never really knew, his son, Constable Benton Fraser, also a Mountie, with
his wolf Diefenbaker in tow, follows the killer's trail to Chicago, managing to get a transfer to the
Canadian Consulate there.
While taking up his new post as Deputy Liaison Officer, he pursues his own investigation, making contact
with the tough-talking streetwise Chicago cop - Detective Ray Vecchio - who's in charge of the case.
Assisted by Diefenbaker, the two join forces to try and solve Bob Fraser's mysterious murder and so
begins a chain of dramatic and dangerous events that take the trio to the northern outposts of Canada when
the hunters become the hunted...
This DVD Box Set includes all of the episodes from Season One of Due South:-
'Pilot (Parts 1 & 2)', 'Free Willie', 'Diefenbaker's Day Off', 'Manhunt', 'They Eat Horses, Don't They?',
'Pizzas and Promises', 'Chinatown', 'Chicago Holiday (Part 1)', 'Chicago Holiday (Part 2)', A Cop,
a Mountie and a Baby', 'The Gift of the Wheelman', 'You Must Remember This', 'Hawk and a Handsaw',
'An Eye for an Eye', 'The Man Who Knew Too Little', 'The Wild Bunch', 'The Blue Line', 'The Deal',
'An Invitation to Romance', 'Victoria's Secret (Part 1)', 'Victoria's Secret (2)', 'Letting Go' and
'Heaven and Earth'.
Framed (£14.99, Network) is out now and stars
Timothy Dalton, David Morrisey & Penelope Cruz.
Lawrence Jackson and Eddie Myers could not be more different. Jackson (David Morrissey) is an ambitious
young police officer, saddled with the responsibilities of a wife and children. Myers (Timothy Dalton) is
an escaped criminal turned informer, presumed dead. But as Jackson discovers while holidaying in Spain,
Myers is very much alive.
Myers has become Philip von Joel, handsome, dangerously charismatic and very, very wealthy. Extradited
back to England after a nerve-wracking Scotland Yard operation, von Joel agrees to do a deal with the
police. He'll tell what he knows - only if Jackson can be his interrogator. So begins a deadly game of
cat and mouse between the master criminal and his determined minder. Which comes first - duty or temptation?
At Home With The Braithwaites Series 1 (£14.99, Network) is out today
and stars Amanda Redman, Peter Davison, Lynda Bellingham & Julie Graham.
The complete first series of the popular series. They say life begins at 40. For Alison Braithwaite this
is an understatement. Her youngest daughter Charlotte presents her with a Euro lottery ticket and the
unbelievable happens. She wins £38 million and makes a firm decision not to tell her family. Why is
she keeping it a secret? Just how long can she lead a double life before suspicions are aroused?
At Home With The Braithwaites explores the lives of this seemingly ordinary suburban family with more
surprising revelations along the way...
One Summer (£19.99, Network) is out today
and stars David Morrissey and Spencer Leigh.
This is the story of two Liverpool youths who go to the hills and valleys of Wales to enjoy a peaceful life.
They come from the Liverpool of 1983, a tough gritty, uncompromising city a long way from the magical days of
the Beatles.
For the teenagers, Billy and Icky, things are getting a little too close for comfort. Like brushes with the
police, the spectre of unemployment and the attentions of rival gangs. However they don't find the calm idyllic
life they expect. They have people like Kidder to contend with - a strange man, a loner who could very well
change their lives.
Sharply observed and written with both sympathy and a sense of humour, this critical and commercial success was
created and written by reknowned Liverpool playwright Willy Russell. Only repeated one, in 1995, this is
the first time that this long-anticipated series has been release anywhere, on any format.
Goodnight Sweetheart Series 3 (£19.99, Revelation) is out today
and stars Nicholas Lyndhurst, Michelle Holmes, Victor McGuire & Elizabeth Carling.
The entire third series of the 'Goodnight Sweetheart' television comedy, which follows the adventures of
a time traveller that flits from the 1990's to the 1940's. As the American GI's take over 1940's London,
Gary's life in wartime London and the present day undergoes a noticeable change.

Kate Beckinsale dispatches the werewolves in Underworld on DVD...
The sequel, Underworld: Evolution, is out in cinemas this Friday, so
it's time to catch up with the extended edition of this vampire flick where
Kate Beckinsale roams the streets as a 'Death Dealer' and aims to see off
Lycan leader Lucian, but do all her colleagues have her best interests at heart?
Would Sparks be the number on album in heaven, on CD...?
Hello Young Lovers is the 20th album release for Sparks, but of those
20, only four have charted to date. Can they turn their success around with
this one?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
certainly thinks so, although Sparks are a band that ooze kudos from every
pore.
The release dates for singles go up until March
with albums also until April 2006.

ITV's pointless rebranding for 2006...
It's only been 3 years since ITV last rebranded themselves with stupid
yellow and blue squares, but now they're wasting money on doing it again
with new channel ID logos (because clearly their own marketing dept are
too thick to realise what channel they're watching) and new idents,
including - for the main channel - a middle-aged man almost losing his towel,
pigs wallowing in manure and a dog hanging out of a car window.
Presumably it'll be the only of the four ITV channels to escape a permanent
logo as the others already carry them. Either way, ITV4 has been branded in
the new way since it started in November, and the only time I've tuned in is
to watch old repeats of the excellent Dream On. However, I'd have watched
Dream On whichever channel it was on, so it doesn't matter that it's
on ITV4, which is where the TV execs fall down: People watch PROGRAMMES
not channels.
ITV's marketing dept have also discovered by spending money is that they
want people to think of the main ITV channel as 'Robbie Williams', with 2, 3
and 4 as 'Cameron Diaz', 'Shiela Hancock' and 'Daniel Craig', the new James
Bond. Pardon?
They've also ascertained that a survey of 6,000 people think that ITV's image
is 'vague' and that they think the BBC is 'Dad', whereas C4 is 'cool brother'.
Fuck knows what they're smoking, but the cost of this is £3million,
which is surely better spent on making programmes than the reality shit that
spews forth on a daily basis(!)

Get back at demon drivers in Burnout Revenge on the Xbox...
Some games are born great, some become great, and others are just bloody
fantastic. This game is absolutely priceless entertainment in all ways
and I just can't get enough. After one go, will you be the same?
He's big, he's bad and he's on the silver screen for over three hours,
but does this make for worthwhile viewing?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
reviews a monster tale...
Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather live in Paris on DVD...
Released on January 30th:
When you take two fine artists, the first a member of American West Coast
band Toto, the second from Steely Dan, put them together in a Parisian venue
and you have a night of unparalleled genius, as reviewed by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts.
The Verve released their last single just over 8 years ago, but Richard Ashcroft
has carved out a successful solo career for himself. His new album, Keys to
the World, is out in two weeks, and in the meantime treat yourself to the
first single from it, Break the Night with Colour.
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
lends an ear.
