Of this week's highlights and lowlights...

23 Starsailor - Poor Misguided Fool

An entertaining track from Starsailor, but they do tend to put out songs which are a bit on the short side and without much depth to them.

18 Alicia Keys - A Woman's Worth

For all the hype at some recent awards show, she puts out some bloody dull singles.

14 Pet Shop Boys - Home And Dry

I'd normally be the first one to say this is the absolute dog's bollocks because I've been a massive fan of the band since their conception and bought all of their CD singles from when they started making them, up until "New York City Boy" (I couldn't find "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk" at the time)

However, this new release - the first for two years - shows that they've completely run out of ideas and is very disappointing, by comparison with what they normally come up with.

I thought after a few listens it would have grown on me, but it hasn't. I hope it's not the end of the road for them.

8 Darren Hayes - Insatiable

Godawful pants from the lead singer of Savage Garden. Steve Balsamo, come back, all is forgiven.

7 George Michael - Freeek!

If I'm right, this is the single which soooo can't be shown uncut on primetime TV because of the line "one-fuck fantasy". Either way, it's a terribly overhyped and just plain terrible single.

George, if you're going to hype something, make it worth its while.

6 Blue - Fly By II

I was sure this had been released before, but I don't think it has upon checking. However, if that's the case then I must have heard it a million times over the past few months and I'm sick of it already.

5 Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love *

I always used to think that Marc Almond did the original of this with Soft Cell in the 80s, but later found it had been done before.

Manson's version is most welcome and has a brilliantly gothic promo to go with it. After the hype of George Michael's disappointing single, it's good to see a track do this well without the same hype.

1 Gareth Gates - Unchained Melody :O === *1st Week at No.1*

The runner-up in Pop Idol and it didn't sell enough to beat Will Young's 1.1 million sales in the first week, but it still sold more than Hear'Say's debut.

However, it's a terrible cover version. His voice is far away from the strength that's needed to cover it. Practically on a par with Robson & Jerome.

For those who care, both of Will's tracks are on here too, but sung by Gareth.

Dominator's Top 50 of 2001

13. Ash - Burn Baby Burn

The 13th single made No.13 in April last year and was a great, loud and energetic track with a great promo which stands up to plenty of repeated listens.

This track was preceeded by Shining Light (No.8, Feb 2001) and followed-up by Sometimes (No.21, July) and Candy (No.20, Oct).
