[This week's digest] [New Singles Release Info]

[Album Charts] [New Albums Release Info]

[Last week's chart]

The initial bit :

In the last chart of 1999, I posted my Top 50 singles of the year, picking out the Top 10 first. During 2000, I'll be going through the list one by one starting with the Top 10 in alphabetical order.

This week : 11 new entries, 1 re-entry, 1 climbers, 3 non-movers & 24 downers.

new entry re-entry climber faller non mover

CHART TIME !

  • 53 Da Slammin Phrogz - Something About the Music
  • 69 Medway - Fat Bastard
  • 71 Afro Celt Sound System - Release
  • 73 Shelby Lynne - Leavin'

Of this week's highlights and lowlights...

    24 Shola Ama - Imagine
21 Eagle-Eye Cherry - Are You Still Having Fun?

Two people with a second album on the horizon and hoping for a comeback, but it won't be a happy one on the poor performance of these singles.

9 Ricky Martin featuring Meja - Private Emotion

A not-half-bad ballad from the Latino king with guest vocals from Meja, whose only other hit in the UK was All About the Money (No.12, Oct 98).

A review of his DVD, "One Night Only" will be coming soon, but until then take a look at the review for : The Ricky Martin Video Collection

    4 Oasis - Who Feels Love :O ===

Second single from their latest album and this is even more dull than "Go Let It Out". Not a No.1 and I expect it to sink like a stone next week. Goodnight Oasis, get some decent tunes and stop ripping off the Beatles.

    1 Fragma - Toca's Miracle :O === *2nd Week at No.1*

In November 1997 a band called Coco released a dance track which made scant impression on the charts (a mere No.39), but was one which received a fair bit of airplay after it fell out of the chart.

As I wrote in May 1998 when it got a mention as one of my Top 50 singles of 1997, I noted that "In these days of dance tracks being endlessly rereleased I hope this one comes out again soon...as long as they leave it as it is though."

The good news is that this is the same track. The bad news is that it's been remixed to the point where the background music that made it special has been removed and now replaced with something that completely goes against the grain. A perfect example of turning good to shit.

This single is the 13th in a row to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Westlife - I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun
  • 2. Manic Street Preachers - The Masses Against the Classes
  • 3. Britney Spears - Born to Make You Happy
  • 4. Gabrielle - Rise
  • 5. Oasis - Go Let it Out
  • 6. All Saints - Pure Shores
  • 7. Madonna - American Pie
  • 8. Chicane featuring Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up
  • 9. Geri Halliwell - Bag It Up
  • 10. Melanie C - Never Be The Same Again
  • 11. Westlife - Fool Again
  • 12. Craig David - Fill Me In
  • 13. Fragma - Toca's Miracle

    Dominator's Top 50 of 1999

    17. Adam Rickitt - I Breathe Again

Yes, despite his failings since and that the only job he can get these days is as guest presenter on Channel 5's "Exclusive", I quite enjoyed his first single which made No.5 in June last year.

He played Coronation Street's second Nick Tilsley and the track was produced by Pete Waterman. It certainly shows it but that said it's rather good. He could be our answer to Jason Donovan, in the nice way of producing jolly pop tunes, and not in the bad way of becoming a drug addict and being accused of being gay.

It was followed up by two singles that didn't perform as well, Everything My Heart Desires (No.15, Oct 99) and Best Thing (No.25, Feb 2000), as well as an album Good Times, which experienced none of those going straight in at No.41 in October last year and then falling out of the chart never to return...

If you think he made a mistake to leave a top soap for pop stardom, just wait until you have to endure the shite offered by Sid Owen (aka Eastenders' Ricky Butcher).

    The end bit :

Well, that's it for now. If you want to be added to the Widescreen Video and Laserdisc lists, just mail me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
