...aka actor Bill Nighy from the movie "Love Actually", in a cover of
"Love is All Around", and not a very good one but it's for Comic Relief or
Children in Need, or something.
Blue: Guilty
11 Blue - Signed Sealed Delivered
It says "featuring Stevie Wonder", but it sounds more like he and a woman
are singing all the vocals (which is true) and Blue are doing very little
indeed (which is also true)
Sugababes: Three
10 Sugababes - Too Lost In You *
Surprisingly, this is a brilliant single and by far their best thing to
date. Perhaps they're finally making the grade from cheesy pop artists to
more serious artists?
Pop Idol: Living The Dream
5 The Idols - Happy Xmas (War is Over)
Dreadfully trite, and it was such a fix that Michelle won Pop Idol 2, but
then Mark was incredibly dull and she was just... a bad karaoke singer.
There was a request for people to write in to be on Pop Idol 3 in 18 months
time, at the end of the show, except will there be another one? I can't see
it coming back. Maybe they thought they could turn things around with 'sequel
series' such as this and "The Rivals" but while the series get massive ratings
and a fair bit in phone revenue, I doubt that pays for the production and
promotion of intending to get a new star to have a long-term music career,
especially since the decreasing credibility of the show will put the nail in
their career coffin early on, however good their intentions are, and I doubt
Simon Cowell and Simon Fuller are a charity.
Bo Selecta: Series 2
4 Bo Selecta - Proper Crimbo
Leigh Francis' Avid Merrion creation has been going for far more years than
is good for it. However, this (hopefully) last throw of the dice is worth a
watch of the video if mainly for the pairing onscreen of Matthew Wright and
John Leslie.
The Darkness: Permission To Land
2 The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)
OTT, but reasonably enjoyable as seasonal nonsense.
Gary Jules: Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets
1 Michael Andrews & Gary Jules - Mad World *1st Week at No.1*
The surprise Xmas hit, and taken from the soundtrack of 2001's sleeper
movie success,
Donnie Darko
This is a cover of the Tears For Fears single, and excellently haunting it is
too. Glad to see it came to the fore after being picked up on by radio stations
playing it rather than the likes of Pop Idol force-feeding their tripe down
our throats.
