[Album Charts] [New Albums Release Info]

[Last week's chart]

The initial bit :

For my last chart of 2000, I've posted my Top 50 singles of the year, starting with the Top 10. During 2001, I'll be going through the list one by one starting with the Top 10 in alphabetical order.

This week: 9 new entries, 1 re-entry, 2 climbers, 1 non-movers & 27 downers.

new entry re-entry climber faller non mover

CHART TIME !

(* - my current favourites)
(!!! - Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) - Repeat., ie. a re-release)

A brief analysis on the current chart situation...

    9 new entries and 1 re-entry :

    • 38 (50 RE) S Club 7 - You
    • 34 Drowning Pool - Bodies * !!!
    • 30 Streets - Let's Push Things Forward
    • 27 Pulp - Bad Cover Version
    • 24 LFO - Every Other Time
    • 15 New Order - Here To Stay
    • 13 Pay As U Go - Champagne Dance
    • 3 Doves - There Goes The Fear
    • 2 Nsync - Girlfriend
    • 1 Oasis - The Hindu Times :O ===

so the following dropped out :

    • 40 Agent Sumo - Why
    • 39 Ryan Adams - Answering Bell
    • 38 Travis - Flowers in the Window
    • 37 Cliff Richard
    • 36 Galleon - So I Begin
    • 35 Aurora - Dreaming
    • 34 Aaron Carter - Leave It Up To Me
    • 33 Outkast - The Whole World
    • 32 Vines - Highly Evolved
    • 27 Garbage - Breaking Up the Girl

    2 climbers :

    • 12 (13) Darren Hayes
    • 16 (17) Jennifer Lopez

    1 non-movers :

    • 14 Lasgo

    and 27 going down.

    Big fallers include :

    • 17 (10) Matt Darey
    • 21 (6) Faithless & Dido
    • 22 (16) Usher
    • 26 (11) 3SL
    • 33 (19) So Solid Crew
    • 37 (25) Barthezz

New entries from No.41-75. See who missed out this time round :

    • 44 Alice Band - Now That You Love Me
    • 48 Oceanlab - Clear Blue Water
    • 54 Adam F - Metrosound
    • 55 Remy Zero - Save Me
    • 57 CRW - Like a Cat
    • 69 Jhay Palmer - Hello
    • 73 D Note - Shed My Skin
    • 74 Hoggboy - Shouldn't Let The Side Down

Of this week's highlights and lowlights...

34 Drowning Pool - Bodies * !!!

"Let the bodies hit the floor" chants this rock anthem loudly and often. It's bloody brilliant and gets many a play on MTV2 with a bizarre "12 Monkeys" style feel to the video.

27 Pulp - Bad Cover Version

And a bad record. It's a spoof of charity records that's worth a look once but not after that.

15 New Order - Here To Stay

Another first rate tune from New Order and used in the "24 Hour Party People" film, but still severely lacking in originality.

3 Doves - There Goes The Fear

I'm all for this Manchester band getting into the Top 3, but this is the most uninspired track I've ever heard from them. It contains none of the passion from "Catch the Sun" or "The Man Who Told Everything" and sounds like something by the Stone Roses circa 1990.

1 Oasis - The Hindu Times :O === *1st Week at No.1*

If in doubt, just rehash old ideas to the point where they sound tired and boring, and the clueless drones who bought your last album will buy this anyway and you'll cash in.

This is the 7th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. Aaliyah - More Than a Woman
  • 2. George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (R)
  • 3. Enrique Iglesias - Hero
  • 4. Westlife - World of Our Own
  • 5. Will Young - Anything is Possible/Evergreen
  • 6. Gareth Gates - Unchained Melody
  • 7. Oasis - The Hindu Times

Dominator's Top 50 of 2001

After last week's look back at all the Top 50 tracks of last year, this week sees the list of my Top 50 of 2001. From next week I shall begin my look back at them.

17. Cake - Short Skirt Long Jacket

Making only No.63 in November last year, this was a very funky track that should've been a monster, if only it got some radio airplay, with at least three different videos of members of the public giving their insightful opinion on it.

There only other recent song of note was "The Distance".
