Of this week's highlights and lowlights...
37 (42 RE) Spice Girls - Goodbye
You say Goodbye, and they say hello again. Why are they back in the charts with
the same single? Good question, although it may be down to them taking part in
the current NSPCC TV advertising campaign against child abuse which shows how
people are more likely to look away rather than face the truth.
9 Andy Williams - Music To Watch The Girls Go By *
It only made No.33 in May 1967, but this time the classic, catchy tune gets
a Top 10 placing from a re-release thanks to an advert for Fiat Punto cars.
I've got one of these, but I don't get that many girls ogling it. Then again,
there's so many Puntos on the road that they're probably done ogling for the
day.
4 Robbie Williams - Strong :O ===
Replace "Strong" with "Weak and bland", which is just how this slow, turgid
effort treads out. Very dull indeed.
1 B*witched - Blame It On The Weatherman **1st Week at No.1*
Four singles and four instant No.1's. B*witched are the first group ever to
go straight in at No.1, which should be congratulated... if it wasn't the
result of obvious marketing strategies which are causing it.
This is the 9th single to go straight in at No.1.

The ex-Suede star goes solo and makes a superb debut single, which made No.12
in January last year, and is a rather atmospheric ballad that grabs the senses
by the balls and drags you in. If only it could have made the Top 10.
It was followed by "Not Alone" (No.27, Mar 98) and "A Change Of Heart"
(No.45, June 98).
