(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie
want to hurl!)
( (R) - Repeat., ie. a re-release)
A brief analysis on the current chart situation...
New entries from No.41-75. See who missed out this time round :
45 Englands's Barmy Army - Come on England
46 Trina & Tamara - What'd You Come Here For?
47 Status Quo - Little White Lies
52 Redman - Da Goodness
59 Double Six - Breakdown
61 Celeda - Be Yourself
73 Delerium - Silence
74 Laptop - Nothing to Declare
Of this week's highlights and lowlights...
30 No Doubt - New
After their last album, "Tragic Kingdom", which was already a couple of years
old by the time "Don't Speak" went straight to No.1, I've been waiting until
the time when they brought some new music out. However, this hasn't had any
airplay where I've been listening, which explains the low chart position.
26 Blondie - Nothing is Real But the Girl
"Maria" was excellent, but this follows the same pace and isn't half as
exciting. In fact, it's rather a disappointment. Have the reformed Blondie
peaked too soon?
16 21st Century Girls - 21st Century Girls
"The New Spice Girls" is how this band of 14-16 yr-olds have been touted,
and if memory serves, ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller has had a hand in
this, with newspaper stories reporting on a change in line-up as the drummer
was booted out before they signed a record deal and one of the other girls
learning how to beat them in time. Plus, a story about how the single's release
date was pushed back when the promo had to be re-shot due to its war theme,
as if anyone could actually be offended by the theme and not the appallingly
bad singing.
Anyway, it looks as if the whole project has back-fired now that it's NOT
gone straight to No.1, in fact it's nowhere near it.
Without a doubt this is one of the worst singles of the year so far and it
shows how stupid the single-buying public can be. This is the project of
Baz Luhrmann, director of crap films such as "Strictly Ballroom" and the latest
incarnation of "Romeo and Juliet", and I fail to see what exactly he's done
here.
He didn't write the words, which are spoken to a dance beat, and he didn't
speak them either, using an actor's voice instead. I wonder if that's actually
him in the video even.
Absolute crap. Save your pennies for S Club 7 next week instead :)
This is the 16th single to go straight in at No.1.
1. Fatboy Slim - Praise You
2. 911 - A Little Bit More
3. Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
4. Armand Van Helden featuring Duane Harden - You Don't Know Me

Released in July last year and making No.9, this was the second single from
"Version 2.0", their second album which has now been re-released with a bonus
4-track Live CD, and was a track that easily topped the excellent
"Push It" (No.9, May 98).
The other singles released since have been "Special" (No.15, Oct 98),
"When I Grow Up" (No.9, Feb 99) and "You Look So Fine" (No.19, June 99).
