Of this week's highlights and lowlights...
69 Vengaboys - We're Going To Ibiza :O ===
I had this down for another instant No.1, but the fact that it's bombed so
spectacularly proves that there is a god!
37 Dove - Don't Dream :O ===
Godawful rap-cover of the classic Crowded House song, "Don't Dream It's Over"
which became their first AND last single.
30 Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child O' Mine :O ===
Want a more tuneless version than Axl Rose's original? It's right here!
6 Martine McCutcheon - I've Got You
Second single and not another No.1. I haven't heard it unless the bit of
warbling I caught on Jerry Springer's new UK chat show was it, but with her
new long blonde tresses, she looks like she's trying to be England's answer to
Mariah Carey with a Sarah Jessica Parker haircut.
4 Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos
Julio Iglesias Jr. Not a bad song either.
1 Lou Bega - Mambo No.5 *2nd Week at No.1*
After becoming the first single to climb into the Top 40, when only being
available on import, since The Jam's That's Entertainment, the UK release of
this single secures it a top slot, one place about Shaft's similar "Mucho Mambo"
It's not a bad tune, but isn't the most impressive since it's the rapping that
spoils it. Without the rapping, those who saw the recent Guiness advert will
remember it accompanying the one where the old man swims for exactly 119.5
seconds as the perfect pint is scored and his brother and the town cheer him on.
On TV it was quite a short ad, but at the cinema it seemed to go on forever.
This is the 24th single to go straight in at No.1.
1. Fatboy Slim - Praise You
2. 911 - A Little Bit More
3. Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
4. Armand Van Helden featuring Duane Harden - You Don't Know Me

The fourth single from her "Left of the Middle" album was a ballad that grew
on me with each play. It's also one of the few slow songs that translated
perfectly to a fast dance track and still gets the occasional play on
Galaxy 102 FM in Manchester.
In its original form, the track made No.5 in October last year. Her only
other single last year was "Wishing I Was There" (No.19, June 98), but she's
done nothing in the charts so far this year.
The end bit :
Well, that's it for now. If you want to be added to the Widescreen
