New track from deep-voiced Heather Small and the band, and first new track from the "Best Of". I thought groups weren't allowed to release silent albums (!)

3 Touch & Go - Would You...? *

A couple of weeks ago I heard this for the first time and thought it was excellent. It's a dance track with occasional trumpet solos which reminds me of The The's Infected, with an added female voice that speaks occasional come-on lines like "Would you like to go to bed with me ?"

Last week I nearly bought it, but didn't for the reason mentioned below under Cher's song. However, "Would You..?" has been used on so many trailers or pieces of incidental music on TV that I've grown a bit tired of it.

Cher goes Techno. The end result sounds like she's singing through a toilet as a machine controls the inflection in her voice and makes her sound like Professor Stephen Hawking.

This is still No.1, and George is No.2, because both singles are still only œ1.99 apiece, whereas Touch and Go was close to full price.

This is the fifteenth single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

Fourteen No.1's in a row beats the record set in the chart at week ending April 13th 1996 when the Prodigy rounded off 10 singles going in at No.1 in a row which began with Shaggy. Let's see how many more are to follow...

45. Space Brothers - Forgiven (I Feel Your Love)

1997 only saw two hits for the Space Brothers, with no more to follow this year. "Forgiven (I Feel Your Love)" was a brilliant, ethereal-sounding ambient dance tune which spent a week at No.27 in December last year. Their previous hit was "Shine" (No.23, May 97)
